Hey guys, I tried on this ring recently on holidays in New York. What do you think of this for an engagement ring? Its super pretty in real life and very sparkly!! the three centre stones are quite small - I think between .2 and .3 I was thinking of having it made (Leon would be my first choice) with ex cut stones but worried that if I go up in the size of the centre stones it will ruin the delicate elegant look of the ring! What do you think??

Bump - Here''s another view

I tried it on with the Tiffany Legacy wedding band and it matched perfectly - no gaps from the front - only a tiny gap from the side. The legacy ban is the exact same width as the halo in the flower ring so they match very well. I am having a really hard time making up my mind. Its either this or a three stone round brilliant with pear sides (on leon mege website). I''m leaning towards the flower ring as I like the art deco style and its low profile but extremely pretty. I wonder though is it a ''young'' ring if you know what I mean? i.e. will it still look good on me as I age? The three stone would be a safer option I guess!?

Um, WHY???

Ex stones?? -- well, Tiffany''s are pretty darn good - how much improvement are you expecting?

Save money?? -- wouldn''t count on it -- Leon ain''t cheap & that''s a complicated design he''d have to re-craft from scratch.

Slightly bigger stones?? -- would ruin this design, IMO.

I agree with deco, I'd just get the Tiffany ring. it's beautiful as is and I wouldn't chance going custom with it, it probably won't look the same at all, plus as deco mentioned chances are it's not going to cost much less either.

I love that ring! Tif''s makes a necklace to match it, too.

It''s lovely!!

I''d probably be inclined to get the original from Tiffany..

Thanks for the advice. The tiffany ring is actually within our budget so I could buy from them. I just have a niggle of doubt as when I tried on the ring the centre stones did not seem to give off as much sparkle/light as others I have tried on. Do you think this is because of the size? I got a quote from Leon for a different style of ring and I was suprised at how reasonable his work actually is. I thought maybe if I could get it made I might source better quality centre stones? But then of course I run the risk of not ending up with exactly what I saw in the shop. I think you''re right about the size of the centre stones. The sales asst in tiffany''s said that that particular ring only comes in the same size bacause it best suits the style - so I prob shouldn''t mess with that.

This was my exact dilemma - I even posted about it. I love that ring. I tried it on with that band and its a beautiful set.

In the end I did decide to go with a classic Tiffany solitaire instead because of some of the issues you''re raising - personally I wanted something more simple and chic that could go with other looks. I ended up with a 1 ct. Tiffany solitaire from signedpieces (they''re great). My fiance and I talked about it and in the end I felt that I could get the deco ring later as a right hand ring. I think it depends on your look and your profession (to a certain extent). The ring has a strong vintage and girly vibe. Personally I wear a couple of simple things out of my jewelry collection the most often, despite having more elaborate things that I love - you might be different.

I also wasn''t sure I wanted something like that in a forever ring - my fiance is senitmental and there won''t be any upgrades - just new jewelry.

Now that its been a couple of months I''ll probably go with a Cartier diamond trinity ring as an eventual RHR because of how much I''m enjoying my solitaire.

In my opinion if you get something made its most likey not going to be as good as the original - because you fell in love with the original. Personally I think Tiffany uses amazing stones - so I don''t really think you''ll see a difference - but that''s just in my view.

Why dont you look at the tags on several of the same style ring. You might find that they have different grade stones on the same style and you could therefore, find a sparklier version? Just a thought...Lovely set though. Very vintage

I love it!!! I also think it would make a fine engagement ring, and no I don''t think it''s a younger look. It is possible that it will someday go out of style, but everything does...and this is unavoidable unless you get a plain solitaire. However, I do agree that tiffany''s markups are not fun or necessarily worth it. I would contact signedpieces.com (they sell pre-owned designer jewelry) and ask if they get anything in like this to give you a call. Sometimes this works for people.

Leon would definitley be able to produce something beautiful for you, but all of the hand work to create it might be just as expensive. I would get a quote to see just in case. BTW, he doesn''t *replicate* anything and might get insulted if you use this type of language, he''s an artist...

Another thought, brian knox at knoxjewelers.biz created an antique garnet ring for me with leaves that are quite similar to this ring and thin a thin bezel and this makes me think that he could handle the design very well. His quotes are very reasonable, he is super friendly to work with, his craftsmanship is superior, and his attention to detail is incredible. He does take a little longer to produce custom works than some other vendors around however if you are in a hurry. Here''s the thread to my ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-antique-garnet-ring-is-done-pics-inside.48251/

Another thought...would you still like the ring without the oval halo around the three center stones? You could go with bigger center stones and still get an overall vintagy look with something like this and it would be cheaper to get custom made. It would also look more "engagementy" and probably stand trends a little better this way as well.

Mabye dear irina could make a mockup to see if you would like it.

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone. I really appreciate it. I love this set and even though I''ll be the one wearing it it helps to know other people think it''s pretty too!!

I have always liked vintagey bohemian looks and this is reflected in my home and what I wear so I don''t think its a passing phase for me.

great idea to check other tags - maybe there will be a variation in cut.

Thanks for showing the link to your garnet ring kcourselle - its beautiful!!

It''s a beautiful ring - and I agree - I don''t know that you''d save money by having Leon recreate it - I''d get the original.

I agree with Kcoursolle! That could be a very nice look....and Kcoursolle, I LOVE your ring setting. Very nicely done!! I hate to hijack, but what did something like that run you? My friend has an emerald cut diamond and I think that would be divine as a reset. Hey I even like it possibly for my own gemstones!

I hate asking price, so if you don''t feel comfy, just give me a range and about how long it took to get done...?

MJD, I say go for it if you really like it. But perhaps get quotes from Brian Knox!

Brian''s quotes are super reasonable. This was a while ago (about a year now) and his prices may have gone up, but I think the setting in 18k palladium was about $800-900 and the stone was about $200 from customgemstones.com...so fairly affordable for a pretty expensive looking ring!

I think it took about 4-5 weeks, I can''t really remember. However, I stressed "no hurry" and quality every time I talked to him...so I really didn''t care about the speed of completion. This is never really an issue with me, I rather wait for a quality piece than a rushed job.

That is a very nice piece, and I love the craftsmanship of handmade mounts. He has some nice work! Thanks for your info, and with the price of metals and labor, I assume the price has increased, but it''s a good start! Thanks! Too long for my friend perhaps, but seems reasonable for a future project of mine... ;) Again when i have time, i may get some stones set i have just sitting in a gem box....

Thanks for the info!!
