Hey all, my RHR/Cocktail Garnet ring is complete!! I had a wonderful time in this process and everybody involved did such a great job. They were all wonderful to work with. It turned out beautifully, I am very happy with it. Firstly, Dan Stair at http://customgemstones.com/ cut the garnet for me. The pictures don''t do it justice. Once it gets in the right lighting, this stone starts on fire! Dan was great to work with, I highly recommend him.

The garnet is 2.41 carats and measures 8.2mm*6.7mm. My ring size is 4.5 and the metal for this ring is 18k gold with palladium allow.

Brian Knox and his son Ryan (Cad designer) at knoxjewelers did the work on this fabulous creation. They were incredible to work with. I will definitely go back to them again. Here''s the link to my ring on their website:

They take better pictures than me...

I''m going to be wearing this on my right hand, but I had trouble holding the camara when it was on my right hand. But I knew you would want some handpics.

In this pic, you can really see the personality of the stone more...Sorry about the smudge on the table, forgive me. I did clean it first, but then I handled it so much during the photographs.

Oooh, gorgeous stone & I love that setting from every angle.

How did it work to have the stone custom cut? I periodically get ideas for RHRs, then check the websites of the usual suspects for stones, but never see exactly what I have in mind. Is custom cutting much more expensive? Did Dan find the rough for you?

Thanks everybody, I''m very happy with it! Can''t stop looking at it in fact!

Kay, having a custom cut garnet was great. I gave dan the approximate carat weight, stone type, pictures of colors and tones liked, and a general description of the shape of the cut I would like...and voila!! It was a great experience, and it was wonderful to get something exactly what I was looking for.

However, he did mention that it''s often difficult to get an exact shape replica, because inclusions or other irregularities might change the shape on the fly to avoid being wasteful.
