If you know she really wants the bead set band, then get her what she really wants. although, I''d gladly give up a beadset band for a 2 carat Tiffany solitaire and just get a beadset wedding band or 2 bands to flank on either side of the e-ring. But, do find out what SHE wants, that is the only person who matters.

SignedPieces are very reputable, they have a store in New York and a very generous return policy just in case...

Oh heck yeah, right there with MrsS. I love a bead set band, but I''d give up that dream if the tradeoff was a 2 ct Tiffany solitaire!!! ''sides, there''s always a wedding band, for sure. I''d get that 2 ct from SP in a fluttery heartbeat.

I''d go with the 2 carat and get her a really blingy etenity band---a 2 carat vs. a 1.42---2 carat all the way!!!!!!!

in case you haven''t noticed we are size whores here and most of us live vicariously through others gorgeous rings.

someone needs to buy that 2ct on SP! it''s been sitting there for a while. i keep staring at it, wishing i could buy it. i used to think that 1 ct would be enough. then i told my husband that i''d like something around 1.5ct in the future. now that i''ve realized it''ll be like 20 years before i get another ring, i told him it''s 2cts or ''else''. (i have yet to determine what the ''else'' actually would mean. probably a lot of sulking...)

why buy a 1.4ct ering diamond setting when you can buy a 2ct for the same price and then add something sparkly (eternity bands) to it later?

I really do think it depends on what she is really wanting or expecting. I love a great deal, and the ring on SP has tempted me, too! But in reality, I would really rather have a 1.5 F VS1 than a 2.0 H VS1. The clincher is that the price of the smaller one new is almost the price of the larger! I love not paying full price for Tiffany, and if she''d love large stone and is not requesting a colorless diamond, then you''re fine with the SP ring. But if she wants D-F color and the beadset band, then you''d better go with that 1.42!

I completely agree with this! Is your g/f really color sensitive? Does she really prefer a beadset over solitaire? Does she mind getting an used ring? All these things are just as important as the size of the diamond. Perhaps you are thinking of surprising your g/f so you cannot ask her, but it''s such a huge investment I''d try to find out exactly what she wants somehow....

Maybe you are familiar with this already but just incase you aren''t, if you are in Europe you will have to factor in adding customs charges. I know in the UK we have to pay VAT (value added tax) of 17.5% on the diamond, setting and shipping total cost and also 2.5% customs duty too.

Also are you sure she wouldn''t mind getting a used ring because many women would not want that for their engagement ring. Nothing wrong with it if she agrees.

Hello,

If your girlfriend wants Tiffany''s, then get her that. Just be sure. Would it make a difference to her if she knew she could have the same quality for half the price (look at that smoking magnified image)? Maybe not. Then would it make a difference if she knew she could have a much larger and better cut stone for the same price? Again, maybe not.

Neither of the stones you mentioned were spectacular, both scoring a 2.8 on the HCA. That''s not bad in the grand scheme of things, but IMO it is if you''re paying double the going rate for the diamond just to have a special box and name on the interior of the ring. Both of their crown angles are bumping them out of the ideal range. I guess I''d go for the smaller diamond since its diameter is better -- the other is $1k more on a miniscule difference diameter wise.

OK, so if she knows that she could have a 2 carat diamond for the same price, and she doesn''t care, or if she wants Tiffany''s and doesn''t understand or need to know how much you''re spending and you won''t tell her about the whole 2 carat thing, then my next question is . . . why are both these stones F VS1 with unimpressive cuts? If you''re set on Tiffany''s, and set on using your local Tiffany''s and the stones they have, then I''d branch out a bit in either direction color and clarity wise and focus on the cut of the diamond. I would much rather have a G VS2 with a killer cut than a mediocre F VS1.
