Tianyu Lab diamond Asscher compared to Kori Asscher moissanite

I have been buying a lot of Asscher’s lately just to compare the cuts. They don’t have the brilliance of my round so I get a little disappointed with the sparkle if I don’t have them mixed with some brilliants to up the sparkle factor. I haven’t post my Tianyu lab diamond yet as I have been patiently waiting on the setting to get finished. I love my aquamarine halo so I decided to do another Art deco setting with the lab diamond. It will have larger halo stones and a flower underneath made of .10 marquise’s. I made small changes all around to give it more sparkle and a pop of color with some rubies. The setting that the lab diamond was in was empty so rather than recycling it, I decided to put an equivalent moissanite in it as I have no solitaire’s anymore.

I will post about the lab diamond on the MMD thread once I get pictures of the completed setting hopefully this week. The stats are around 8mm VS1 H in color. I was trying to get a 2.5-3 carat stone in G color but they could never quite get there with the rough they selected I had been waiting 7 month’s already. Once the stones were graded by IGI, they kept coming back as an H. There was one G but It was the smallest and these already face up so small so I passed. The stone looked much whiter when it was not mounted but I can definitely see some of the brown tint. I would strongly recommend going no lower than a G on this kind of center if ordered from Tianyu. The price was agreeable but there are no returns so it is a gamble.

I sent the Asscher to Sam at. deBebian’s. He said he see’s the tint but it wasn’t as obvious when it wasn’t mounted. What bother’s me most is how dead the center is as it is not faceted at the way through. I put one of his new Kori moissanite’s that was 8mm back in the setting and I can see the difference in cut immediately. We decided to add a cup underneath the diamond to hopefully improve the color and to minimize the X that I see in the stone when it is set. I don’t know a whole lot about the cut other than the understanding that the cut of an Asscher and how white it is, is so important. When I compare both of them to my Asscher aquamarine, I am a little disappointed because the precision cut aqua moves like water and I only paid $300 for a natural mined stone from Jim Buday. His cuts are really amazing and that rings is still my favorite.

Here are a few comparison’s. The Kori moissanite is part of deBebian’s new precision cut stones. This is 8mm (3 carat) Asscher in colorless in a 14K white gold setting. I have a few comparison pics next to my aquamarine as well. I will post more about the lab diamond later next week when I get pics. This is just a comparison for the moissanite center.

That Tianyu lab diamond has a really unpleasant window in the bottom. I've been looking at them lately, so I'm glad to see this post

Yes, it does and it bugs me. I am hoping the cup in the setting closes it up a bit more. It definitely was not as visible as it was until it was set. I got a preliminary pic from my jeweler today but I will have to wait and see what it looks like in person.

They are starting to do some antique cuts now or an emerald cut would be a better choice.

@swaye2010 I would not be so honest with most users, but I’ve seen you had so many beautiful pieces made and know you have amazing taste... I hope that lab diamond looks better when it’s set. I was actually on Ritani’s website today looking at asschers (just by coincidence); it’s a hard one to shop! Unlike rounds that have some pretty predictable numbers to go by for angles, asschers seem to be all about the videos which can be hard to judge.
I am looking forward to seeing your pics tomorrow- truly hoping it turns out absolutely lovely ❤️

This is a very helpful post for those looking for an Asscher stone. I'm hoping it will suit you when you see it in person.

I doubt you can replicate your aquamarine's precision cutting by Jim Buday.

Thank you for posting the comparison. I DO look forward to seeing your new ring--as always, the Debebian craftsmanship looks absolutely stunning! I think you're going to have another showcase piece, and hopefully you won't have to change out the Tianyu lab diamond.

As always, your help to the community is greatly appreciated!

Hey Girl! I asked the jeweler to hold onto it because I am sending a few things to get looked at before he send’s everything back together. I also stupidly bought a pinkish/peach tourmaline last night off of Loupe Troop. Something like 11x9. I want to replace one of my ACC’s with this. It has a lovely pad color. I know I would wear the setting much more. If the cut isn’t great, I will get a small recut. I need to put a cap on it after this one. I was so good last year too!

I will post some pics when they send me the glamour shots. Might be tomorrow.

Is it really stupid to buy something beautiful that will make you wear an existing ring more? I like to think of it as up cycling at its finest! Lol
I’ll keep watching for pics ☺️

@swaye2010 I'm looking forward to the glamour shots and yes, it is so so hard to be good. Especially when gawking at all the pretties on this forum.

I know this looks like I went a little crazy on the miligrain but @Mreader, as you know, it is really fine in person. I had already said to go ahead and do it around the inside collet but now I think it might have been better if I left it.

I do have it on the aquamarine like you can see in the pic. I also decided to add it to the sides because I like to wear my pave ring and it scratches the sides so badly. The miligrain and engraving helps keep those area’s looking new.

I managed to squeeze in (2 @ .15ct each) marquise’s that are 5x2.5 and (4 @ .12ct each) that are 4.5x2.5. The baguette’s are 2.6x2.3 mm and the halo stones are 1.6mm.

I really wanted to add a red ruby pop of color for my daughter. We didn’t end up putting it in the diamond cuff so I decided to add a scrolled S for my name and put rubies inside it.

Sam said that the cup helped with the window and also with some of the tint. I will take pics and add it over to the MMD area when I get it.

That is an amazing ring! I love all the different cuts of the diamonds and the Ruby detail is so creative.

That turned out absolutely stunning!
The setting fits your diamond like a glove, and it really does look so white. I can’t wait to see your own pictures but it’s safe to say you have knocked it out of the park once again. :kiss2:

It’s probably a little ‘extra’ but everyone know’s that is my style! The real life pics are what is most important to me now. I want to get a good look at that center again since it has been several month’s.

This turned out SO well! That exquisite, intricate workmanship really shows in Sam's pieces. I think you knocked another one out of the ball park!
Looking forward to hand pics, and get ready for some in person hand grabbing when you wear this!

I just wanted to say thank you @swaye2010 for the videos, as a non american buying a stone only to return is a headache getting duties paid back. I've been waffling between a moissanite or lab diamond step cut, some moiss videos I see for the step cuts seem to be less clear than diamond, but some look just as sharp and clear as the diamond. It looks like your moissanite is just as sharp/clear as your diamond :)
