My thoughts are that I think I prefer 2 over 1. I haven't had a chance to compare 2 and 3 side by side outside yet (had to leave the office) but that white area on 3, I can see straight through that section of the stone and count the pixels on the monitor I was using for a backlight. Other than that, it's aset shows an interesting center.

I *personaly* would eliminate the third one. The right white is total leakage. The other two have less leakage, but still some; e.g.,, more light return than “none”. I might like 1 better than 2, but i’d prefer to see them in motion, too.

So far, I believe #1 should be kept, and more need to be found for comparison. #1 is good, but I know you can find better....

Ok, as an asscher owner, I think (@Karl_K ) that asets aren’t as helpful for asschers as other shapes???

At any rate, when I bought mine, it was blind from blue Nile, no pics, no asets, no videos, lol. Back in 2012– you just picked one and decided in person.

My experience with diamonds is.... if something is nagging at you, return it because it’s only going to get worse.

Can you go down to a G color to get more options? I love a D though, so I get it... most of my diamonds are DEF, but my asscher is a G Vs1 so I could max size. Mine is 1.52 and I wish it was bigger but once I reset it, I’m happy with it.

Having said that, from the videos, I think I like #1 best but I would like to see videos. Do you have IG and can upload videos there?

They seem terrifically SIMILAR - as far as ASET tells... (#1 wins this game by a little, all are fine, IHMO - allot of red & almost all some colour instead of white)

I would simply play aruond with them & let the little glittery objects talk back!

Can I find a stone without light leakage? I assume the white/grey/muddy areas are varying degrees of light leakage, with that Stark white of number three being pretty much a square hole. Is that right?

I doubt I'll keep any of these, frankly, the more I'm learning as I go, but I want to have realistic expectations, too, and that's why I asked the opening question.

If @Karl_K can’t discuss these 3 specifically, maybe he can discuss leakage vs contrast? And how good Asets are at demonstrating performance specifically for asschers?

yes, it is possible to find one without but you will have to probably go through a lot more to find one that is that "unicorn". With step cuts its just harder to find an awesome stone

Well, for #3, does it back out in the middle? Does the middle light up? Tell us what you see for each one. That would be helpful (uploading a video for each on IG would be the best)

My IG is yatcube so maybe you can go look at my asscher videos. IG cuts the videos strangely lol so sometimes it’s nearly getting cut off at the top of the sides of the video, but you’ll get an idea of how I play with mine in different lighting.

I'll try to do that, the IG video.

I'd like to hold out for that unicorn, but I don't want it to take a month. Anniversary is THIS month, lol. Obviously (now), I started my search too late to be on-time.

Well return the ones you are not happy with and switch out, the quicker the better! Take a look at that 2.3 I posted

This one is nice but I think you are over paying, it faces up a little on the small side and the clarity is def overkill (unless you like that)

This one could be interesting, the video it appears tilted too much

im sick so no long reply im not impressed with any of the asets there all in the low vg range due to the centers

Feel better soon, Karl

Thanks for sticking your head in, @Karl_K . [sprays disinfectant] J/k.

I've boxed them all up and sending them back. Better luck next round! This is time consuming, but I may have found my retirement career, or an expensive hobby, at the very least. Really interesting stuff.

Off topic, but how do you order and return to Blue Nile? Do you have to pay for each stone, then get a refund upon return?

@sep004 , Yes, you pay for each. Then, what you send back you get a refund. They don't like sending more than one, but they will if you make special arrangements in terms of when and how you send them back.

@Venzen007, just curious: are you restricted to BN?

@Matthews1127 ,meaning, am I open to looking elsewhere? Of course.

We’ll have to keep helping you look. Just sit tight. The right one will pop up sooner or later. I looked daily for a month with blue Nile before I found the exact perfect upgrade studs.

I think I saw one at diamonds by Lauren, but I felt the price was a little high, but never looked close enough to decide for sure. Let me see if I can find it. Never mind: it is a 1.17 carat

Have you seen Vintage Cut Asschers?
@diagem Yoram Finkelstein at GemConcepts is a phenomenal diamond cutter, and he is phenomenal to work with.

I’d HIGHLY recommend contacting him to help you find “THE” Asscher.

I own 7 of his beautifully cut Vintage Cut Asschers. I even took my own amateur ASET images of all 7 of them, and they are SUPERIORLY Cut to any other diamonds I have EVER seen.

He is also the original cutter of the Octavia Asscher Diamond (in collaboration with @Karl_K, who designed the Octavia).

Here is his IG:

Another Step Cut Vendor/Expert who should be mentioned is Jon ( @Rhino ) of August Vintage, Inc.

Jon’s remarkable, as well!

If these vendors do not have what you’re looking for, on hand, they can source stones for you, and provide optics, images & videos.

Please reach out to them!!!

totally agree with @Matthews1127 ! Finding a perfect step-cut is super tricky, so going through one of these trusted vendors to help source you one is probably the way to go.

bn videos unlike some others have a lot of light in the green zone in ASET, that is technically better than just light in the red zone but it makes it harder to pick asschers based on the videos when other images are not available.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, im feeling a bit better at the moment with just a mild headache.
Migraine level Sinus headaches stink, i just wanted to rip my face off at times.
The mold/pollen level in the air has been really atrocious this year here.
