So I'm looking for a larger, colorless RBC stone for my girlfriend. Something in the 10-11mm range and colorless or very nearly so. We've discussed lab grown diamonds and she likes the idea. This one from JamesAllen is a leading candidate.

Main concern I have is the clarity (VS2 from IGI). Using the superzoom function I see a fairly large needle visible through the table. I'm thinking/hoping it will not be very obvious without magnification and that it's potentially worth checking it out in person. I can always send it back if it is not 'eye clean'.

The crown angle is slightly out of the preferred range at 35.4 but I think this is matched with the pavilion angle of 40.5. Best I can tell from the video inspection is that the diamond has very good light performance and symmetry - it is a "True Hearts & Arrows" and is currently on sale - and I believe the fire should be good with that 35.4 crown angle.

Color (IGI E) should be okay, even if it translates to a F/G from GIA; my ex-wife's stones were both GIA G, 3.04 & 4.79ct mined diamonds and we were pleased with their (lack of) color.

Anyway, comments welcome, particularly whether the visible inclusions would be a dealbreaker for this rock. Or if there is something else that would suggest better to stay away. Thanks in advance!

If the inclusion is visible to the naked eye, it would be a dealbreaker to me. Otherwise, it looks like a beautiful diamond. The light return and H&A look great. I'd see if maybe a JA rep can look at it in person and tell you if the inclusion is visible before you buy it.

Shrink the video down. Waaay down. Do you see it?

wow that's a beautiful icy stone! I can see it too. I would be on the fence because the diamond is so big, it might bother her. Hmmm.. hard one. Everthing else about the stone is perfect.

Definitely not visible (to me at least) with it shrunken down to near life size ~ 10.5 mm.

Looking at a few other smaller stones with higher clarity grades too, but she likes 'em big :)

It looks like a great stone. You're not going to see that inclusion in real life without a loupe. It looks to be a 'clean' inclusion anyway. Not a carbon inclusion.

Beautiful stone! I agree, you won't be able to see the inclusion. I have a SI1 that looked very prominent in pics and video, but I can barely see it in person.

Hi!
I have a 4.76 lab diamond and I am in the process of upgrading Jeweller is looking for a 6.5 it’s hard at that size to find.... private jewellers are less expensive than James Allen mine is for sale just in case you were interested
Here is my link in a forum

So as a follow-up,that 4.52 EVS2 H&A that was on sale at JA went 'unavailable' before I made a decision on it. Possibly a good thing as a jeweler in NYC I trust said he could see the inclusion and felt it was potentially overgraded at VS2 clarity.

After more searching online, I found this 4.53 DVVS2 with excellent cut parameters (56.5%, 34.9/40,6, 62%). Ultimately I found this exact stone listed at three different vendors. One (FrankDarling) did not charge sales tax in my state, and was willing to meet the lowest price I found elsewhere... it is here now (pic attached) and indeed very beautiful, certainly eye clean. They are a newer seller but were a pleasure to deal with.

I did ask the NYC jeweler I mentioned (Mark T) to look as well, and he found a few candidates including a 4.39 EVVS1 H&A that looks very promising. It is more expensive but he seems to trust the source of the stone... he told me some are better than others for these lab stones and there can be factors affecting them not listed on the certs. He's nice enough to send it so I can compare them both.

Whichever one I decide to go with, plan is to set in a ~ 2mm pave band (size 4.25) with pave under-halo.
