Thoughts on this stone and band? Help!

I am close to purchasing an engagement ring and center stone from a local shop.
Is this a good deal for an in-store purchase? $3550 before taxes. After some research I am potentially concerned about the pavilion angle. I am considering making this purchase but would really value feedback on the pricing but especially the quality of the center stone. The store associate also made a big deal about how the setting is from New York and not China and how the center stone is NOT from India. He said the diamonds listed on their website are a lower price because they are of Indian origin. Help please!

Hi diamondguy and welcome!

You're right to be concerned with that pavilion angle, really try to keep it between 40.6 - 41 degrees, any deeper and you're going to run into issues, there's lots of diamonds out there in this size, I'd advise you to keep looking personally. It's not the worst cut stone on paper by any means, the rest of the numbers are good but that pavilion is the fly in the ointment.

Just a quick look brings up this, which I'd far rather have an it's cheaper, just to give you an idea.

Thanks for the quick reply. Thoughts on the pricing? And the ring?

You're welcome!

Price for the stone isn't too bad, I did a quick search and it's in the ballpark. The setting at the sale price seems to be ok, US based PSers might have a better idea on that and I think my little friend Rocky's around and she's good with settings, she should have a better idea.

The setting price is on the high side of normal for that brand. If your girl wants an engraved ring, these are some options that are less cost, so you can shift a bit more toward a diamond.

If she did not request an engraved design, this is a lovely setting on sale right now. You can always have engraving added later by a good engraver.

The price on the stone is good, but I just don't love the angles. Its too deep and has a very flat top and wide table. That deep pavilion angle is making it face-up small. Not what you want.

Here are a few options that are better.
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4477702 **** Great angles. Very clean. While this weight less than your selection, it is actually bigger in spread by .04 mm than your because it is less deep. 5.99 mm.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4416784 Great angles, likely eyeclean, but inclusion on the table may be bothersome. 5.94 mm

This is another great option. with superideal optics. WF also has a more generous upgrade policy giving you 100% of the cost toward and upgrade. 6.04 mm.

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3974692.htm; Really pretty stone. 5.80 mm.

Here's what that .83 from JA I posted above looks like on a 6.5 finger.

Thank you everyone for your input. I decided to go with the first one, the 64, I posted about. Yes, the pavillion angle is a bit high, but I really liked the stone in person and nothing is ever perfect. She’s not going to notice the pavilion angle ;) Looks great with that .45 cathedral pave setting!
