I wouldn’t buy it unless it came with a cert from either GIA or AGS...at the very least an appraisal from a GIA gemologist. I bought many things from eBay and you can find great deals..but you have to be careful...The sellers can sometimes rate the stones themselves without any real knowledge.
 
I would call ID Jewelry and see what you can get for your money (especially since you would be resetting that ebay ring). I* think
you could probably get close to a GIA/AGS stone in the same budget range(including some funds for the reset).
 
Hm, a chip in the center stone would make me pause. I'd probably want to have that polished out, which can affect the stone's performance, ct weight, etc. I think that's about $80-100? Then a reset will cost hundreds more. But before I even do all that, I see they offer a 30-day return window. During that time, I'd want the ring appraised by an independent appraiser, which will cost another $100-200. At the end of the day, I'm not sure that you'd be saving much by buying this ring.
 
Yes, having no certificate means you have no idea what you’re getting. You can buy a GIA XXX I VS1 for about $2300 so the price is also way too high, in my view.
