Thoughts on this OMC? Similar to August Vintage?

I found this OMC on loosegrown diamonds through looking at cushions and putting in omc-ish depths and tables. I've found a good few omc from this method but this one looks almost identical to an august vintage I think. The ratio is the same and the tables and depths are only 1-2% off. 1.52 carats, F color, VS1. Only $350. Is this a good purchase? Also sorry if the image formatting is weird this is my first post.

Might be too much obstruction or contrast (dark zones) to pass AV's QA...perhaps Jon (Rhino) will see this and be able to comment about his AV OMCs while remaining compliant with the forum rules.

Could be true. But for 1/6th of the price of an AVC even if the performance is slightly off it seems like a great deal. From the 360 video you can still see what seem to be big pastel flashes.

I don't know if you want a stone that goes dark most of the time even if it was a "deal". Wouldn't you rather pay a bit more for a better cut stone? In the world of lab diamonds they are so abundant that it doesn't make sense to compromise on cut.

Agreed.

Here's a video that Jon uploaded to his DG YouTube channel highlighting strong center light return and scintillation:

Agreed. It's not a great stone (the one OP posted). It won't look like AV

If you like the price and want to give it a whirl, then go for it - no harm in looking with your own eyes. :)

My thoughts exactly. Worst case scenario I return it. Loosegrown diamonds has a good return policy.

That bow tie effect would really bother me. Lab diamonds may be shockingly cheap these days but settings are not so it still behooves to choose the best cuts.

To me it looks like it has a fair amount of striation so it may look cloudy under bright light and it does have obstruction. In OMC diamonds some obstruction can be interesting IMHO. Areas of the diamond that go dark can be nice to look at as the diamond facets turn off and on.

But if this diamond is meant for an E-ring or the "one" diamond ring you will wear almost daily I would search for a better cut OMC with a clearer crystal. I've learned as I have gotten older that "buy once, cry once" has merit when you want quality.

If it's part of a collection of diamonds then I say go for it if the $350 is just fun money. The price is spectacular.

It might not photo well but at normal viewing distances by eye has a good chance of being wow,
The crystal is not awful.
At that price it could be a very good deal,
If its a tad dark at ring distances its a nice pendant size.

It has a nice glassy look. I guess it depends how picky you want to be.

glassy - maybe because of those big facets? I like that watery look.

Rotate it side to side and get those big facets firing and it will be everything but glassy.
It is inherent to the design that they put on the best show rocked side to side.

I guess I just don’t like this cut. There are not antiques like this!
