Hi!
I recently purchased an engagement ring with a 1.23ct round brilliant cut diamond from a local independent jewelry store. I did not discover Pricescope until after I bought the ring, but I kind of wish I had, as the diamond that I bought seems to have some odd proportions based on what I have learned. In particular, the table is quite large at 69%. Although the diamond looks good to me, and my (untrained) eyes can''t see any fisheye, I wanted to post here and get some thoughts.
Here is the info from the EGL USA report:
Weight 1.23 CT
Shape ROUND BRILLIANT
Color H
Clarity SI2
Measurements 7.06 x 6.99 x 3.99 mm
Depth 56.8%
Table 69%
Crown 11.7%
Pavilion 42.1%
Crown Angle 37°
Pavilion Angle 40.1°
Girdle MEDIUM
Polish VERY GOOD
Symmetry VERY GOOD
Fluorescence FAINT
Culet NONE
Cut Grade N/A
Comments
UGS Appraisal Value N/A
My main concern is that the glare from the table is pretty prominent at certain angles. Other than that, although the diamond looks nice and "sparkly" to me, I can''t help but wonder if I am sacrificing something with the large table and somewhat shallow crown.
We chose this diamond mainly because it has good color and looks very clean for an SI2, and we thought its size looked great in the setting. However, I have been considering looking for a more "ideal" cut with a slightly smaller stone to keep the price of the ring in the $6000 range. The jeweler said he could swap out the stone if it comes to that.
I''m posting an admittedly blurry pic that I took with my cell phone camera so you can get an idea of what the ring looks like. I will take better photos either tonight or tomorrow with a real camera in macro mode and post them here.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
