So I found another diamond on Blue Nile - but of course without actually being able to see the stone all I had was the GIA to run with. I got the stone in and it looks pretty good to the naked eye. I bought my own idealscope and took a peak the first thing. It's got a bit of leakage to the edges compared to the cal CZ but I haven't looked at enough diamonds to know if this is fairly common and the Cal is just a super ideal?

What do you guys/gals think? Does it look a little deep?

Stats (1.1 TIC):

Even though it's a strong blue florescence, no haziness/milkiness in direct sunlight!

Sorry for my poor pic taking skills!

Thank you for your time!

Are you looking for a Hearts and Arrows diamond? This one has some drawbacks but it's not bad. It really depends on what the price is though as whether or not you should keep it.

I'm just looking for a decent diamond at a good price, this one was $6500.

What drawbacks do you see?

Thanks!

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thank you!

Still slightly on the fence with this one considering what Solgen said....

Anyone else have any thoughts? The Diamond was ~$6500

Thank you again!

No it is not a deep stone. In fact it is a bit on the shallow side.

Ahh, I see. Just looking at the idealscope chart pictures, I took it to be a bit deep.

I guess based on the reference chart for the idealscope the diamond seems to have:

Excellent Symmetry
Only good light return
Slightly shallow

Is that what you're seeing also? Looks like I might be able to find a better stone for $6500?

Other than that, what do you think of it? Decent stone? Return? Keep?

Thanks!
Ask your eyes since they are looking at the stone.. :wink2:

True true, I'm just worried that because I haven't had the experience as others have had I'm picking a bad stone!

It's a 60/60 cut stone, one with table and depth of 60%. These type of cuts tend to be more brilliant with less fire balance than Tolk cuts, which are more evenly balanced And a little spready for its weight. My guess is that your diamond is very bright and liveLy. There is a little leakage, but maybe not so visible in real life. Some visual difference is because you are comparing real life images to other professional photo set ups.

As far as good deal? My thoughts are that 60/60 stone cuts cost less than Tolk cuts and strong and vs fluoro also are discounted. So, you are paying a fair price, perhaps good price for the specs. you could also drop in color to a g or go just under a carat, like 0.99 ct. To also find savings. Maybe those are value choices, but the price is determined by those selected set of specs.

I didn't know there was a special 60/60 type diamond! After a bit of research it seems like the 60/60 cuts offer brilliance with the expense of fire like you said. The diamond is really sparkly, but with the leakage of the Idealscope do you think I could do better? Or is that leakage minimal enough that I would most likely not be able to tell a difference?
