Thoughts on this 1.31ct

Hi all,

I would appreciate your thoughts on this 1.31ct J IF. I'm not particularly looking for IF but the price was lower than a lot of the lower clarity equivalents. The thing I'm concerned about is the J color. Not sure if I would be better off going with less clarity and better color or if I will be fine with J on a simple white gold ring with some small diamond on the sides.

They have the pavilion angle degrees wrong...it should say 41. This stone has all nice numbers and looks good. I'm glad you
have it on hold.

Edit...with respect to the J color, straight on you may not see much color (depending on your sensitivity) but pretty much everyone
can see the tint when they look at the side (pavilion) angle.

You can go on James Allen and look at Customer Inspired Rings (on the Engagement Ring pulldown). Find a setting that you are
interested in then see if that ring has been created with a J colored stone. See if the color difference between the main stone
and the pave bothers you. In general* it does not bother most people.

In looking at this video, I wonder if it is a very low J (closer to a K than an I) or whether it is J with a brown tint instead of a more yellow tint. That would explain why the pricing is competitive, as brown-hued stones are often sold at a discount when compared to yellow-hued stones of the same color grading. I'd definitely ask James Allen about the tint.

The IF will bump the price up without making a big difference to the naked eye:

You might be better off with a VS2 if you want better color of G for example:

Wow thanks for the input, I never expected any response so quickly. I unfortunately procrastinated too long and and now trying to figure out how to obtain something perfect for me by mid next week. That makes it a bit of a challenge.

Now that I look at it more I do see a more yellow (maybe brownish?) color to some of the other J's. The cost was actually a bit under what the diamondhacker website was saying for the diamond buyer cost which brings some concern since they aren't going to be handing out free money. I'm going to check with James Allen and hopefully they can give me some more information on the color.

It took me a while to realize that the clarity can look much worse on a lot of the pictures because they are so magnified. Being that this is a first time purchase it sure is a hard decision. I do appreciate the responses though they are very helpful.

No, something strange about that site. There aren't any information on the stones...
