Thoughts on these Beryls?

As I already mentioned awhile back, I’ve been casually looking for an aquamarine for quite some time now. I’m stuck at home with Covid and a bit bored so my casual search has turned a bit more aggressive. I was originally looking for a marquise cut but now I’m highly considering an emerald cut instead. Im looking to create a fun right hand cocktail ring. I have realized that I really like green tones. A medium seafoam blueish green would be my ideal color but I’m pretty open to whatever catches my eye. Even a green beryl would be perfect. I’m looking for completey eye clean. 4+ cts for a marquise. 6+ cts for an emerald cut. My search began with a few pretty marquise cuts but the windowing looks pretty bad. I also found a more limey color beryl that is totally not what I’m originally looking for but it speaks to me. I then found a longer aqua that looks pretty. Obviously with the low RI and being a step cut there will be windowing no matter what. What level of windowing is normal and acceptable? My hang up on both of the EC stones is cut quality. Thoughts on the cutting on either of these? Am I an absolute crazy person for not going custom cut? I’m nervous about the cost plus it takes sooooo long.

Ideal color for me would be like this 500 ct from Hound and Eagle but I haven’t been able to find anything this color:

Here are some marquise stones I was looking at. Sorry the video is so weirdly zoomed in The blues are just way to windowed. Big daddy stone in the back is so deep I almost feel like it’s a waste of $. I adore the color of the stone in front but I fear it will be so windowed. I haven’t asked for additional videos of it because I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

Here is stone 1. It’s not what I was originally looking for but it totally speaks to me. It’s been about a week and he’s been on my mind nonstop. My main concern is just cut quality. It does clearly have a tilt window but is it acceptable straight on? I have more videos and pictures, but they give away the vendor. Even though this is probably no one else’s cup of tea; I don’t want to risk anyone beating me to it.

This is my inspiration photo for setting stone 1

Stone 2: I love the more enlongated cut but maybe this one is a bit too enlongated. Clear tilt window but is this typical or can I do better cut wise?

The first stone almost looks lime green or peridot-like. I'm not good at analyzing cut especially with emerald cut stones, but the color you are after in the inspo reminds me of DJ's mouthwatering emerald. It's almost a beryl look to me:

ETA Sometimes you can get the seafoam color with Afghan tourmaline as well :)

Yep it’s very lime colored. No blue in it at all. Omg that emerald is to die for!

I just re-read your post (wasn't reading well) and saw that you said the lime was speaking to you even if it wasn't the color in your inspo. Whoops! I just saw it wasn't matching the insp color and was commenting on that. I also love Precision cut step cuts and this one isn't beryl but I like this guy - his cuts are lovely.

Windows can be avoided with proper cut. This is heliodor, but same RI.

Judging by the videos, the first EC you are looking at has a small window. The second just avoids a window. I'd consider this acceptable. What worries me more is the lack of light return from the outer facets at many angles. This makes the stone look smaller than it really is.

Tilt windows can't be avoided - even diamonds have them at extreme tilts.

The 500ct stone (!) was no doubt cut for weight, and it shows. I love the colour - good luck with your quest.

That is absolutely gorgeous! I feel pretty set on beryl right now but I followed him on IG. He looks like he does fantastic work

Thank you! It’s definitely the straight on windowing that I fear. I keep hoping to find something already cut but I’m leaning more and more towards commissioning. I guess it can’t hurt to inquire. I absolutely love your helidor!

In terms of finding the color you covet -- like that first monster seafoam one -- lately it seems that the term "green beryl" is reserved for undesirable-looking greens whereas even pale but attractive greens are being called emerald. You may be better served looking for an inexpensive emerald than a "killer" green beryl. For example, we have a pale old emerald that is way lighter in tone than ideal but is still an appealing bluish green.

@Mjay personally, I would go down the custom cutting route and contact Jeff W to see if he has any roughs that may suit.

He is very busy with custom work and seldom list his vast inventory.

I would check out his galleries, find the gem, colour and cut that I like, give him an estimated budget, and ask if he has anything that suits.

This is a pic of his gallery of Beryls for your information.

Thank you for the tip! I’ll definitely look

Thank you! This is probably the route I need to explore. I was looking at pictures and videos of his emerald cut aquamarines vs the native cut aquamarines that I’ve been looking at and the difference is night and day.

Check Gary at Finewater, he cut 2 Aqua Asschers
for me, one in my avatar, or if you prefer more green perhaps a peridot
