Thoughts on 4.34 EC-J

@PintoBean thanks! It’s all going to come down to how well it performs and if I love it. The great thing is, I have my precious traps... just want them recut to slightly smaller and then a half pave on the band. Won’t be much to pave considering my finger size:lol:

I definitely see this new stone as bigger than your original one and your inspiration photos are all of beautiful settings, some of the nicest ones I've seen!
Did you save your old traps or did you sell them, too? I was wondering if you could use them again and put them into a setting like the Jean Dousset. That would be a big savings for you! Your old stone was an I so the old side stones could be a good match.
I think you are really on the right track now. If you like this one better once you see the other one, you'll be under budget, so you'll already have more towards your setting. And if you love the other one more, you'll get the bulkier look and still be in-budget!
Can Saturday come sooner than usual this week?? Pleeeze????

So here is the side by side of the larger vs my older stone. I think this is very noticeable! This might be the right compromise IF it performs well. I sincerely thank all who are helping me!! Oh and my finger is a size 4 so only so much it can handle!!

Go with your gut!! You’ll know exactly how you feel, come Saturday! Can’t wait!! :mrgreen2:

Recut the traps?! This makes me sad

Looking at the side-by-side of the diamdb.com, it certainly is a much wider stone.

Question though, is recutting the current traps the most cost effective route to go? Looking at the avatar photos, I agree that smaller side stones are definitely the way to go and you probably don't have enough finger space for the new stone and current traps, but maybe our experts will way in on the best way to get there. I would have thought that selling/trading your current side stones to fund smaller traps would be the way to go because of the cost and risk involved with a recut. With a recut your are making the stones smaller (loosing ct/wt equity and potentially compromising cut/performance), what has been peoples experience with how that plays out?

@Octo2005 great question! I don’t know what the cost will be or the recommendation of David Klass who I will be taking the diamond and traps to. I don’t care how I get there, just want smaller traps at the most cost effective way!

Good morning, @Emeraldsaremyfavorite =)2 It's finally SATURDAY!!! I'm anxiously awaiting your posts today!!! Can't wait to hear what you think of the second stone...??? :geek2: =)2

I chose to stick with a slightly smaller stone, it was such a better cut, The ratio I was after and so clearly more beautiful. I am really happy with my decision as this diamond did not cost me very much to upgrade and it is bigger, and really beautiful. So I feel like I got a mini upgrade for just a couple thousand dollars:) The stone is now in David Klass’s hands and I will see CADS soon. I can’t thank everybody enough for helping me out, it was such a clear decision today. I took pictures for you all to see. The bigger stone actually looked a whole color grade lower! The diamond I decided on is on the top, the other one on the bottom. I put the smaller of the two diamonds in my old setting, for a comparison, and the size was not that noticeable.

So I have to give a big shout out to Erica from Love Affair Diamonds, she honestly helped me out every step of the way with this decision. The best person in the diamond industry I’ve ever run into!

Shulamit has also been great and I loved Sam from Ice Rock Diamonds today...Will give you more information on all of this later!

I agree with your choice!! Congratulations!!! Can’t wait for the updates!!! :cool2:

GREAT!!! I'm so happy for you that you've chosen this gorgeous diamond and that all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place for you!!! You've definitely made the right decision and it's wonderful!!! I'm so excited to see what your next step will be and looking forward to seeing your new ring on your finger!!! :kiss2:

@Matthews1127 and @Blingalingaling thanks guys!! I do feel I made a very informed decision, I actually went in there today fully prepared to buy the bigger one and then I saw the difference and I had to go with cut! Can’t wait to see David’s CADS and then reach out to you all once AGAIN for your opinions on all that good stuff! Jean Dousset has a very specific look to his settings, the prongs seem to be more pronounced so I have to make sure David nails that!

Whew, I was nervous when I saw the pictures, because I was hoping you'd choose the top stone! It clearly is the better cut of the two! :appl: Can't wait to see the CADs!

Oh, one question. What is the weight of the diamond you chose?

Just wanted to add that I love smaller traps like your inspiration ring!

❤️ the stone you chose. It's lovely and bright - the other stone is dark looking. It's going to be stunning when it's set.

So is the stone you've settled on from IDJ?

Wow congrats on your new beauty. Really surprised by the contrast with the bigger one as I haven’t seen many emerald cuts but clearly you found a winner. :D
