Thoughts on 4.34 EC-J

Hi @Blingalingaling so so glad you chimed in! So here is what asked Shulamit for: side by side comparisons with video and photos, the question about durability, light performance/ASET. She took photos with her cell phone and video... the stone looked very yellow.

My question for you is, how did your L color look when she sent the videos and photos to you? Could you see that it was not as white? She did say this diamond is not icy white, not yellow but does have a small tint of it. I personally prefer very white stones, without a buttery creamy look. So I’m really going to try to determine what the color looks like from videos and if it’s worth ordering in. Because my gosh... it meets every other criteria! As far is cut, I do not think I know a triple excellent cut emerald cut to a really pretty stone:) To me it does not look dead in the video, and I do not see very many black lines or dead spots. I will be hearing something back today and I will definitely keep you updated! Thanks so much, you are wonderful resource as you have a very large L!

I also meant to say that the knot might never pose a threat to the integrity of the stone durability-wise. I just wanted to bring it to your attention, not to deter you! That's a question for an expert, so I would strongly suggest that if you do have the stone sent to you to see it in person and if you love it and are thinking of keeping it, that you should take it to an independent appraiser for an expert's opinion. :)
Absolutely! My last EC had a cavity, and I had it checked by many Experts and it never once posed a risk. And it was also VS2. But this is so important and expensive I should definitely check!

7002F1F5-7FED-4568-B618-3469CE586F67.jpeg Hi, @Emeraldsaremyfavorite I'm very happy to help you! I think it's best if I post the photo that Shulamit sent me to compare the stones so you can see it. I was strongly considering the two square EC's, in particular the I-color. They both were 5.5 ct. (I had seen them both in person the week before.) The "I" was gorgeous and its ASET was, too. The J was a similar cut, slightly larger face up, but much less money. It didn't ASET as well.
Then Shulamit found my L but I was working and couldn't get there until the weekend to see it, so she sent me this photo to get an idea-so glad I kept it!! See what you think and let me know. :Up_to_something2:

@Blingalingaling So very helpful, thank you! I actually see the J from this photo being a tad whiter than the rest, believe it or not! The faceting of your emerald cut is truly beautiful! Shulamit Should be getting back with me with all my questions, I wish so badly I lived near New York I could just come in and see with my own eyes. For some reason my gut is telling me I will not be happy with a J, but at the same time I may not be happy unless I see it in person. My stomach is in knots!

Oh and she asked Yekutiel about the inclusion, he said it was not a durability in a VS2. But I could have it inspected as well.

After Shulamit found these, she brought in a J color rectangular EC with strong blue flor that looked VERY white, (also about 5.5 carats with great spread) but we all agreed that the cut, sparkle and size of the L was amazing. In the end, I opted for the L because I absolutely loved it, tint and all. (Since then, I've been told by two different jewelers that it looks like an H.)
Have you mentioned me to Shulamit? If you do, ask her to find you a J that faces up white like the rectangular EC she brought in for me, in the size you want. She will remember that stone. Tell her to use that one as a reference for you.

@Blingalingaling Yes, I did mention you before, but we have not spoken live today. Once we do I will ask her all these questions. I guess another concern is she hasn’t once said that the stone faces up very white. She might just be airing on the side of caution, I don’t know. I really wish this stone had florescence!

If I were going to be in the city, I'd go look at it for you. I'm working all week. But you'd still have to be the final judge anyway!

@Blingalingaling you are too kind! I think I am going to have to really trust Shulamit’s judgement. Just so hard because everyone’s tolerance on color is different.

I don't know jack about emerald cuts. Except that I love the flashes they give off. I feel like they are so ladylike. Which is probably why I don't own any! ;)2

But if you are anything like me, you will keep thinking about it and wondering if you made the right decision. If you see it and don't love it, you will have peace about it. I think the comparison shots are a good idea. Maybe that will at least help you see if it's worth sending to you.

I think that before any of us could go look at this stone or any stone for you in person, we need to know what your tolerance is. Please take a look at this stone in your usual lighting at home. If you find it white enough... great. If it's not white enough and you need to go higher to an H, then we can go to the store and compare this stone to other options and give you our opinions.

The J is on the left when you look at the screen (the bigger of the two)? I would have thought that was the I!! On my screen, the smaller one on the right looks more tinted to me!

Me too. I thought the right was more tinted.

Oh gosh, now I’m confused! Here is a very short video where is see the tint more

If a J tint bothers you at all I'd pass. It really depends on the price. For myself, I'd go down in size to get a higher color, but that's me, I'm color sensitive.

Here's the thing, you already had the higher color in the smaller size and you sold it because you wanted to go bigger, so that doesn't seem to be an option at this point, am I right? What you're looking for is a larger stone at a price you can afford. But I'm concerned about J-color for you unless it's a very white looking J. You'll beat yourself up if you settle for less, I can tell. Without knowing what your price range is, I'm still going to suggest you lower the clarity to SI2 and stay in the I-color safety zone. What do you think? Have you asked about SI2's with white inclusions? My pear is an SI2, but it's a D and it's eye clean, as white as can be. It can't hurt to ask.

@Blingalingaling I’m in complete agreement! I am definitely willing to go down to SI2 if it isn’t glaring. Shulamit actually found one and the inclusion was off to the side but reflected to the middle. So I think I need to hold strong on an I, and have strong/medium florescence and less clarity to bring down the price. I’m willing to pay 15k more than my last diamond so I think I can increase in size! I just have to be very very patient! It’s depressing because this was perfect in every way except for color, which is big.

I'm usually all about lowering clarity, but not in a step cut. It's too unforgiving.

These are the moments I wish we were independently wealthy.
I was just looking, out of curiosity, and I came across this absolute perfect specimen of beauty!!
What I wouldn’t give to have an extra $120,000, right now!! I’d buy the stone, and call VC or CvB to prepare them for the opportunity of a lifetime to craft something gorgeous for this HONKER!!
Oh. My. Lands!

Did you ever get the J EC sent to you to look at in person?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the links:) I am coming to a decision. Have two amazing stones coming in... identical in color and clarity... I VS2. Seeing them both in person and then will make a decision. Will come down to cost and if I want to pay to go bigger... one is 8k more but bigger. They do not have the “ideal” depth and table but to me look beautiful in video, will get to see in person! My last EC had a table of 70 and I loved it! So I’m not a strict stat person:)
One is 10.46 x 8.04
Other is 10.73 x 8.5
Will have to think long and hard but I love them both from video.
