Hi guys,

Do you see any red flags about this stone with dual certs? both rated as G color... could that mean GIA was lax in grading this stone?

GIA cert (2008):
1.01 G VS2
6.40 - 6.45 X 3.99mm
CUT: EXCELLENT
POLISH & SYMMETRY: VERY GOOD
Table: 56%
Depth: 62.1%
Crown angle: 34.5
Pavilion angle: 41
Girdle: med-Slightly thick
HCA: 1.9 (excellent light return, very good everything else)

EGL-USA cert (2011):
1.01 G VS1
6.44 - 6.39 x 4.01mm
CUT: IDEAL PLUS HEARTS AND ARROWS
POLISH & SYMMETRY: VERY GOOD
Table: 56%
Depth: 62.5%
Crown angle: 35
Pavilion angle: 41.2
Girdle: 1.2% - 2.5%
HCA: 3.6

That's odd. I want to see what the experts say about this

Re: This stone has both GIA and EGL-USA certs... same color

I wouldn't say that one lab was lax vs. another lab on any given day or year.
It's possible that both GIA and EGL-USA labs are in agreement.
There will always be situations where one will differ from another or agree with each other.
I don't see any real red flags and one can't always predict that EGL USA will be a more lenient grader EVERY time.
As far as slight differences in measurements, etc that is also sometimes prevalent with different lab reports (calibration related).
CUT grade will vary as well as the parameters for determining the cut grade.

If you are considering this diamond, for peace of mind, you should consult a qualified gemologist/appraiser.

Thanks for your post John.

Thanks for the reply! As an appraiser, would you say that $7100 for this stone is a good price?

My personal preference as a trade participant here is not to comment on price.

Sometimed EGL agrees with GIA, there are exceptions to every rule and EGL can be pretty random.

The differences in red are a slight head-scratcher. The PA at GIA could have been a 41.1 avg (rounded down to 41) and CA 34.7 avg (rounded down to 34.5) but the potential difference in light return implications makes my head tilt and eyebrow rise up a bit. For what it's worth, it's the difference in predicted AGSL 0 and AGSL 3, respectively - if we use the GIA numbers as non-rounded.
