Hi all!

My husband is happily allowing me to upgrade my center stone as he purchased the diamond prior to us knowing anything about diamonds, and he got a not so great stone unfortunately. It is a .98 carat round but faces up to the size of a .80 carat. Eek!

Well after coming to Pricescope and seeing all the HUGE rocks on here, shrinkage quickly set in, lol.

So we are getting a 1.8 carat round for my new stone! Yay! Now, what I am wondering is, would you halo a 1.8? The stone is 7.79 mm and my finger size is 5.75 to 6. Or would it look like too much like a cocktail ring? The goal is to have this be my forever stone, no more upgrades or resets. So I am worried that if I don't halo it now, eventually shrinkage will set in again. Your opinion? Thanks gals (and guys)!

Here is the style halo I would get. My gut says it may be too much, but I'm not sure. The other option is a Tiffany style 6 prong with a bead set shank.

Whoops. Let''s try that again.

I think it would look beautiful - not too much at all - it''s a very delicate halo.

My initial response was "no, I wouldn''t halo it." But then I looked at that mounting, and

Love the setting! Yes, I would halo it!

Here is another one that is a similar concept. I love how the shank widens as it goes toward the stone. But it is not as delicate. This beautiful halo is a fellow Pricescoper''s but I can''t remember who! I''m sorry.

That setting is gorgeous and the halo is delicate enough that it doesn''t look enormous and gaudy. I say go for it!

Same here, my immediate thought was "don''t do it" but once I got a look at the mounting, and the delicate halo, now I''m saying "go for it"! That setting is gorgeous!

+1! lovely choice!

Wow that first halo is pretty

good luck deciding lol, I understand where you are coming from since joining PS I realize that the stone I thought was great, not so great, my 1.01 faces up like a .82 or .83 (so my appraisal states with out removing the stone) and I would love to upgrade to the size stone you are looking at....

I don''t think a halo would make it look like a cocktail ring... Have you seen the Tacori 2620? It''s absolutely stunning... My friend has it in a petite proportion and the halo is soooo delicate.

Are you getting white gold? I thought you only wear yellow gold?

when in doubt, halo!

but seriously, i think that if your gut is telling you that maybe you will still think it is small someday, you should do the halo.

It is all personal preference-- I think a halo on a 4 carat diamond looks amazing, and not cocktail-y at all. Can you go to a jewelry store and try something similar on first? Then you will know if you like it, on you.

Yay for an upgrade!

I think the real decision is not whether the halo is too much or not -- it is beautiful -- but what style of ring you like! A solitaire highlights the diamond, and the ring is really secondary. With a halo, the entire ring is the center of attention, the ring is as important as the diamond. These are two very different looks, and to be honest, I don''t think that a halo will satisfy DSS in the long term. It will give you a finger of bling look, but the diamond is still the same size, KWIM? My MIL has a setting that is very detailed and ornate like that, and it is lovely, but her diamond doesn''t look any larger than mine (they are the same size), her *ring* just look fancier.

So I think that the decision should really be about the style of ring you like. I love a halo in many many ways, and often think about getting one, but I know that in the end I want a big diamond, not just a big ring. So for now I am sticking with a solitaire.

What style do you lean towards? Do you want to highlight the diamond or have a stunning piece of jewelry with a lovely diamond?

Another vote for halo! I love the first halo setting because it is so delicate. Congrats on the upgrade, lucky girl! Can''t wait to see your completed ring!

I think it looks beautiful!

That halo will look STUNNING with your new diamond! I doubt you will have shrinkage after that!

Wow! What an upgrade, lucky duck! The first halo setting is absolutely stunning. I say go for it.

I second!

I think that in the long run, it''ll help you from DSS since you''ve mentioned that this is the last upgrade both for the diamond and the setting. I know that the diamond will be the same 1.8 in a halo or in a solitiare, but in a halo your eyes will be drawn to the outer most part of your diamond which in this instance would be the halo giving it a bigger appearnce. I love the first setting you picked! Good luck with whichever you decide!

Both of the options you posted are beautiful and I think that either will compliment your 1.8 just puuurrrfectly. :)

I''m Team Halo..but then again I would put a Halo on just about anything:) Either way you are going to have a beautiful ring.

Thank you for your opinions! You girls are the best. After admiring all your gorgeous rings for so long, I will finally have one of my own!

So it sounds like no one thinks the halo would make it look too much like a ''cocktail ring''.

ilovethiswebsite, it will probably be in platinum. I don't want white gold due to the rhodium plating issues.

Do you mind me asking where the setting is from. I love it!

I would halo it... would look beautiful

Always out numbered lol. I am the only guy posting so far, and i''m the only vote for not to halo. I personally just love solitaire settings.

however, i do really like that setting you picked out and agree that it would NOT look like a cocktail ring. Its very elegant for a halo :) Some halos, I FEEL, take away from the center diamond, but there are some settings that help accentuate the center diamond. Also might help you with the diamond shrinkage issue =p

I really like that first halo! The whiteflash looks like it might be a bit much for a 1.8 but that is up to your personal
taste.

I think a really delicate and subtle halo like that (or say... EM1''s halo on her 2+ carat EC stone) would look wonderful on any size stone! Very tasteful and not cocktail ring-ish at all!

I would definitely halo your fab 1.8 stone! Of course, there are some who might say it looks cocktail-y but to be honest, any big stone halo'd is going to look that way to some people. That comes from someone who has one and to be honest, I don't even mind that it looks cocktail-y at times. It kind of makes me feel good because I can imagine wearing it as an old lady one day.

In NY, it looks like an e-ring because there are so many like it here. But I'm sure if I went to another city where e-rings were more delicate, they'd think I had a cocktail ring on! Whatever! C'est la vie! It's FAB and it'll look FABULOUS on your finger!
