Thinking of a reset...

Hey everyone,

About a year ago I bought a right hand ring from James Allen. It is a gorgeous, 3 stone halo ring. This past May, I got engaged with a round brilliant in a halo setting. Well, I'm just not quite sure that I can pull off a halo on my left hand (1.5 carat stone) and a 3 stone halo on my right. I doubt anyone will buy the whole ring (though what I paid for it is now what the setting alone is going for). I was thinking of replacing the diamonds with some sort of colored stone and having them placed in the setting, maybe a sapphire or something green. Then I would just sell the 3 diamonds.

What would you all do? What type of stones would you put in this setting?

I do love the ring...I just feel like it's pretty similar to my e-ring. Thoughts?

You're probably not expecting this reply from a dedicated color forum contributor, but I wouldn't change a thing and YES I would wear it as a RHR! Mind you I often wear a diamond trilogy as an engagement ring and then a 1ct diamind pear flanked with diamond pears as a RHR! Your 3 stone ring is so gorgeous I would definitely NOT change it!

However, if you won't wear it then that's a different thing altogether but before you change it, why don't you look at coloured stones you like and then perhaps look at cheaper end trilogy settings (they won't look cheap) so you could have a colored stone ring and also keep your diamond trilogy? If you like the sound of that then I'm sure the colored stoners will help you find stones and a setting too!

ooo i think it's a gorgeous ring! nothing wrong with a more bling-tastic look...unless you feel it takes away from the look of your e-ring/makes it seem less special. i'd gladly take it off your hands though if u don't want it :naughty:

I wouldn't change a thing either, and leave it as a RHR. The second-hand diamond market isn't that great so you aren't going to recoup much.

I think you it's okay to wear both. If you're not comfortable, and find that your RHR sits in a box, then I would replace just the center stone with whatever color stone you like. It would be a lot of work to replace all 3 stones. You could put the center stone in a prong setting or bezel and wear it on a chain.

That ring is too gorgeous to change!!!!!! I would leave it as-is for sure.

You guys are awfully convincing...

You're right, haha! I was not expecting that reply. I guess part of it is, I'm not used to that much bling. Most people would probably assume it was fake anyhow, based on my age. Thank you for the kind words. Glad to know others rock that much sparkle on their right hands!

Haha! Thank you for the compliments. It actually has pretty decent finger coverage, but it doesn't steal the spot light of my ER.

.

That's actually a really good idea.

I spent 2,300 on the center stone. It's a .74, F, SI2 (eye clean) triple excellent ideal from GIA. I can't imagine I would get what I paid for it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! It really does break my heart to think of selling it.

And here's a really bad blackberry pic of my e-ring for reference.

Just judging by your awesome nail polish, I think you can definitely rock as much bling as those two rings give you. :D

Haha! Thank you! I'm definitely not a plain Jane by any means.

Big ditto!

Both of your rings are awesome! I would wear them both. The three stone James Allen setting is proportionally perfect to my eyes I love it.

I had never seen your three stone ring before, but I love it. I wouldn't mess with it, either. Just add to your collection and have faith that in time you will be able to afford more colored stone rings. If you start to take apart a gorgeous ring now you will lose a real treasure; lose money; and be sorry one day!

I adore your three-stone! I would wear it along with your engagement ring. If you choose not to do so every day, take it off and put it on for special occasions. But don't get rid of it! It would be a tragedy!!!

I love colored stones, but your three halo-ed diamonds look angelic together. They remind me of a diamond oval with diamond sidestones I saw while I was trying to set a red spinel. I knew with a colored stone I could never achieve that ethereal quality with my stone. Don't give it up now that you have it with your diamond ring!!
