Ok here is what Ive seen in Person. Keep in mind this is going to be the center stone for the Tacori 2510 ring with .62 TW Side stones that are G VS2. The diamond is a EGL cert so little unsure of it but it has a TON of fire. But in my opinion they are asking a little much considering it is EGL, not AGS or GIA. What do you think?

1.54Ct

Well.....
You can get a GIA or AGS certified I VS2 with ideal proportions for less than the price you''ve been quoted on an EGL (questionable grade) so why would you even consider this stone?

Honestly because seems NO ONE around here has GIA stones in stock, and Zero AGS stones. Seems eveyone carries IGI, EGL.... They all have to order them in and hope they look good. This is just what they had at that particular store. The store is very reputable and also the spoke with the gemologist and he told he he buys the diamonds for what it is, not what the certificate says. I do appreciate your input though!!! How much dollar value can be placed on a AGS/ GIA stone?.. for example... if AGS is $10000, what is the EGL worth is its exact what they say it is.. I VS2?

I agree with this statement.

Where? I have searched GOG (12-13K), Whiteflash (10.5-12K)

HCA gave it a 1.1, belive it or not it got 4 Excellents.

Leaving price out of it.....
Given the facts(if they are true) would this be a quality diamond you would look to buy? Reason?

Ariel, I have to say that I think your above post goes over the line. I'm not really sure if this is breaking PS policy but it's rather like going to an appraiser who has his own store/stock and he disses your stone, then offers to sell you one of his. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what it feels like.

ryebread, I think if you love the stone you reference above, and it looks great to you in person, then get it. I think if it's EGL, you might ask for them to sign it out to you so you can take it for an independant appraiser, or ask their return policy and buy it unset, and have it immediately appraised to determine what it really is. You say it looks great in person and really, that's the most important thing, isnt it?

Im also looking at this one... what do you think?

I think I can safely say that diamond will be a far better cut than the EGL stone. Stunning stone.

Are you the one that put it on hold?

Hi Ryebread,

I agree with Ellen, the GOG diamond looks like a great option if you are not certain about the first one. In order to be able to better compare the 2 diamonds, are you able to obtain any more info about the first one, e.g., crown & pavilion angle info?

Given that the first option is EGL graded, I understand your hesitation, given the reputation, correct or not, that it is a more "lenient" lab. If you want to ensure that you are paying for what you are actually going to get, AGS or GIA graded has a better reputation, in that regard. When I was looking at diamonds, that kept on playing through my head when I would see a great EGL stone ... I was wondering if E really meant G and if VS2 really meant SI2 etc ... I couldn''t bother with the second guessing so I just decided to go with a stone that was graded by a lab that is reputed to have more stringent standards.

If you are interested, I did find this A Cut Above diamond on the Whiteflash website that looked like another great option ... at least if you go with something like this, you know that the cut is top notch.

1.52 I/Si1, ACA, $10,670 is the listed price, however, I''m certain that you should be able to negotiate some sort of PS discount or be eligible for the bankwire price, as applicable.

All of this being said, since you saw the first option in person and found it to be gorgeous and fiery ... all of the "specs" may not be all that important ... If you love it ... it''s worth the price ... get it or else you can analyze them all to death.

Good luck with your search.

Ryebread, out of interest which branch of EGL graded this diamond? For example EGL USA, Israel, Europe etc?

Wow, ok, I totally misread your post and I guess I saw one of the "VG"s and thought the EGL stone had a color of G. And in that case I was going to counsel you to get the EGL stone!

But an EGL I/VS2 for $10k, if you search for stones of that size and uncheck "AGS" and "GIA" and check "Other," you''ll find that I VS2 EGL stones around that size are going for $6k to $8k. $10k is WAY too much!

If you were ok with an EGL I, you could look at J color GIA and AGS stones (lots of PSers have J stones and love them), because SI2 in a 1.5 carat stone might be tricky. However, GOG has a great reputation and will be able to tell you if the inclusion is noticeable. If the stone is eye-clean, it looks delicious!

The WF 1.52 I SI1 is listed for $10137 with their PS discount. They also have this 1.597 J VS1 -- one thing the EGL stone had going for it was a larger spread, so you probably have to look at stones of a slightly larger carat weight to match its diameter exactly (although a few mm here or there aren''t noticeable).

You can''t beat GOG or WF for their lifetime upgrade policies, either.

Back when I thought the EGL stone was G/VS2, I was going to tell you that if you weren''t comfortable buying online, then it sounded like a good local option. But knowing it''s an "I," not a "G," and that you seem to be comfortable shopping online, I think you will get a much, much better stone this way. I''m excited for you! Let us know what you decide!
