Former UPS worker accused of stealing $160,000 diamond, trading it for $20 of marijuana
PHOENIX, Ariz. - A one-time UPS worker is accused of stealing a package containing a $160,000 diamond, and trading the valuable jewel for $20 worth of marijuana.

Walter Earl Morrison, 20, was working for UPS while unloading a plane in the cargo section of Sky Harbor Airport when he stuffed a package under his shirt, according to court documents.

Morrison thought the package contained cash, but instead he found a diamond.

“Any single stone over $100,000 is an expensive stone,” House of Diamonds owner Brent Taubman said when asked about pricey diamonds.

Morrison allegedly traded the diamond for the drug, before being caught.

The stolen diamond was recovered and delivered to the intended customer, a UPS spokesperson said.

UPS fired Morrison, the spokesperson added.

Authorities charged Morrison last week with felony theft.

A man who would not open the door at Morrison’s home said he had no comment on the matter.

I'm glad it all worked out well for the diamond owner, not to mention the insurance company.

I wouldn't mind seeing that $160,000 diamond!

And I hate to say it, but... how stupid was that guy!???

To be honest I'm really surprised that ups would ship that. I thought over a certain dollar value you had to ship by armored guard like Brinks?

I don't know how it works, but for $160K I would want an armored guard too!

I heard Harry Winston popped the Hope diamond in a cigarette pack and put it in the mail.

I think vendors use UPS but use their private insurance policy when the item is more valuable than UPS will insure.

I wonder if the stone was a fancy color and so he didn't realize it was a diamond?

Yeah, it may have been tiny and not apparently very valuable to the average person.
I know of a 0.40 carat Fancy Red diamond that lists for $200,000.

So I guess I should go find a $20 bag of pot somewhere (I have no idea where these things come from) and every time the UPS guys come by I'll say things like

"My bag of pot sure is getting heavy! Yup. Twenty bucks worth is reeeaally heavy. Whew! You know what wouldn't be heavy? A diamond! Those sure are light weight! I'd sure like to make a trade. Yup. A trade . . . ".

Then I'd look at them like this while signing the receipt.

I'm sure it'll work eventually. . .
