Ok, the girlfriends friend is picking out settings for me. She found this one, and I love it. But the problem is that its way to much. However, I love this design. This one is priced at $2,971.00

So I was hoping some of you could point me to a place that sells something very similar but at a cheaper price.
First here are the specs/desc:

Platinum Engraved Mounting With 2 Round Side Diamonds Totaling 0.30ct and 12 Princess Cut Diamonds 0.32ct tw And 24 Round Accent Dia. 0.19ct tw.

And pictures:

Also, I would like to find that setting in white gold

I am getting X''s for your pictures.

Is your GF completely opposed to having a plain 4 or 6 prong setting?

You should find out if she would rather you spend your $$$ on the setting or the stone. Some follow the guideline of spending 80% of the budget on the stone and 20% the setting.
You can always upgrade the setting, add sidestones in the future for much less cost than bumping up your center stone- also some settings have to be replaced if you upgrade the center stone, so I would try and focus on the center stone first.

Anyone else having issues seeing the pics? I loaded it up in both IE and Firefox.

I don''t think the prong setting style is a large concern. However she is a nurse and will be taking gloves on and off frequently while at work.

FYI, here is a direct link:
http://www.washingtondiamond.com/StoreBox/3601/365745.htm

What do you like most about it? The three stone look? The antique look? The channel-set princess diamonds on the side? The coated-in-diamonds look? Everything?

What is your budget for the setting??

here''s what her friend said about it:
I really think she would like the antique look.

I agree with that as well. I like the idea of it also having smaller diamonds, but I think the extra 24 round accent is overkill.

Her friends favorite setting was this:

I just brought up the antique because it really caught my eye as well. Both settings are fine though, I just need to find a place thats cheaper.

How much are you looking to spend on the setting? Do you want gold or platinum?

With regards to this setting:

I would definitely make sure that your GF would prefer to have a fancy blinged out setting and a smaller stone. Does her friend know your budget?

I only ask because I have a friend who has a very similiar setting w/ a center stone of less than a carat and she really wishes her DH had gone w/ a bigger diamond and a more simple setting.
This setting won''t make a stone under a carat look any bigger, in fact depending on the proportions of the side stones 3 stones can actually make the side stone look smaller.

$1500 is my max, I should probably tell her that...but I am a little embarrassed to.

The diamond I am going to try and get will be Ideal VS1-SI2 H-J 1 carat.

Don''t feel you have to share your budget w/ her friend. It''s none of her business, but I would ask her, if she thinks your GF would also appreciate a more simple, classic and timeless setting if it meant being able to afford better and larger stone?

Also I would check out the Quest website- yesterday I was looking on there for another poster and they seem to have a lot of affordable WG settings-
I just found this and it''s $786 and there is a matching band for $536.

This 14k white gold ring by Gottlieb and Sons features round diamonds that are pave-set (0.21 ctw). The ring also features gold accents on the side gallery, and made for a 1ct. stone, but can be modified for any size stone. The center stone is not included in the price shown.

Other suggestions (if price of setting below is higher than 1500 but its in platinum as if the setting is comes in gold):

three stone with Pave... hand engraving can be added to it by the jeweler for a small cost.

I second the Quest suggestion.

I'd ask Pearlman's if they can add Engraving to this one: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/whisper-collection/rings

Or if this one comes in gold: http://store.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry/view/3934/1014/

This one is just lovely show it to her friend: http://store.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry/view/1380/1014/

Gypsy, all great suggestions. Will send these over as well!

diamondnewb-
I would ask your GF how she feels about bands before you pick out a fancy setting- does she want a plain band to be able to sit flush? or would she want a matching band that "fits" w/ the e-ring?

Many of the Quest and Antiqueengagementring.com settings have wedding bands that go with the mountings that are fairly reasonably priced, keep in mind the more the e-ring setting the more the matching w. band will probably cost.

We already talked about bands, and she wants a band that has small diamonds (nothing to crazy though) since it will be what she wear the majority of time at work unless the e-ring doesn''t get in the way.

I am not worried about it as much now. Her friend looked at http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/-Flush-Fit--Diamond-Ring_1063.htm and really liked it. So far this one is her favorite, still waiting for her to respond about the others.

I think after the help of everyone here I will defiantly be able to get the setting for under $1500, maybe even under 1k which will make my diamond choice easier :)

Consider some of these as below. Now that her friend has given you ideas, if I may say so, I think that she should step back now - I agree it gets uncomfortable discussing finances with someone like that (esp as then she has ''details'' that others could then become privy to - including giving other mutual friends $ reports)

http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=203&rn=493&action=show_detail (pretty high up though, but the tapering band will make the stone look larger)

diamonewb,

If your GF has shown interest in three-stones, you might want to stay in that area. Even if the center stone isn''t huge, trust me...a three-stone puts bling across the ENTIRE finger.

Here''s a setting quite similar to the one you posted above for $1090 in WG:

Bonita by Knox Jewelers

It has that antique look your girlfriend likes with the side stones and extra bling. Knox Jewelers recommends any size between a 1/2 carat and 1.50 carats, so you have quite a bit of room there.

You''ve gotten some really good suggestions here for some beautiful and affordable settings. However, I would just try to keep your gf''s tastes in mind instead of her friends unless her friend has gotten advice from your gf. Some girls want to maximize the price on the center stone and get a simple setting, while other girls want a more ornate look emphasizing the whole package.

When I asked my gf about a setting months ago she said to go directly to her friend, she said her friend would know. This is why I am letting her friend have full control.

And just a fyi her friend is being really cool about this. She was only pointing out what she saw local to her (the first settings I posted).

I really love all the ideas posted here. I just sort of freaked when I saw the prices on that one site...guess they are 2-3x more expensive then other places :)

this community is big on upgrades, but not everyone wants an upgrade.... sometimes its nice to have a beautiful ring even if the diamond isn''t as large.... just depends on the person :)

Whoops sorry - I posted princess settings. For some reason I thought you wanted a princess - let me confirm - do you want princess or round?

First choice is round, and more and likely what we will get. Second choice is marquise.

Great, I''m glad you kept your gf''s tastes in mind. I think you''ll be able to find something along the lines of what you are looking for for less than the original setting.
