The Search Has Began! Need Some Guidance. Budget of around 16k.

Farrahlyn,

It may just be that like you said, JA does a better job of setting up their videos and pictures. The diamond just looks cleaner and I can see much more prominent arrows and diamonds in it than I do in the BN examples. But from what everybody is saying on here, the real-life experience may not be as good as compared to the BN diamonds that are more closely aligned with the target parameters.

I totally get worrying and i absolutely see what youre referring to. You're dropping a LOT of money on an 8mm stone so plenty of reason to hesitate. If you feel more comfortable going with JA because of the setup, then go back up and take a look at @ac117 recs
This one was over 2ct

I do wonder too if ID Jewelry could acquire the BN stone you prefer and then he could send you an IS of the stone. It would be worth calling and asking and their pricing is pretty awesome. Yekutiel may be able to get the same setting you saw at your jeweler and set the stone as well. DO you remember the setting designer? It is always easier to do one stop shopping.

BN has such a generous return period that it is ok to buy and see.

I bought my asscher from them blind, no pics or ASET (which you are Never supposed to do for an asscher) and it turned out to be gorgeous!

We are also diamond shopping for my ering and ran into exactly this - the fact JA seems to capture videos/photo that showcase very well defined, symmetrical looking arrows have quickly got me to drop BN and I started browsing on JA and Whiteflash exclusively, hopping over to B2C/BN occasionally to compare prices. The diamond we were looking at, however, we were able to request Idealscope image and they got back to us within 24 hours, after putting the stone on hold. So my guess is that your stone might be one of the virtual selection and not in house?

We ended up ordering the JA stone, but we'll be taking it to a local jeweler that carries super ideals like CBI, so the plan is to compare the JA stone, CBI, and other GIA triple ex in person - to make the most informed decision. My bf says at the end of the day, I should go with one that I thinks looks the "best to me" when looking at it in person.

JA has a great return policy, so my advice would also be to buy and compare in person. Good luck!

So I purchased a cheap Idealscope off of amazon to try to get a better look at the diamond since Bluenile couldn't provide me one.

Now keep in mind that this is a really low-quality product. Most of the Idealscopes I have seen have a backlight underneath them and utilize a better camera system. This particular Idealscope is basically a metal tube. The exact one I bought is this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Hearts-Arrow...TF8&qid=1511740295&sr=8-1&keywords=idealscope

There weren't any instructions on it so I just sort of fidgeted around with the background, light intensity, etc. Every set up that I tried basically had light coming from one direction rather than from all around so that may mess up the accuracy some, I don't know. Also, I had to manually center the camera so the images aren't perfectly centered up with the center of the diamond.

Anyways, here are the images that I was able to come up with.

The first thing I notice is that there is some light escaping around the arrows. Again, this may be because of the ghetto Idealscope I am using. Also, there seems to be some light escaping around the outside of the hearts image.

Any experts out there care to weigh in on this? Am I better off taking the diamond to an expert to have a look? Also, will I actually be able to tell the difference in the sparkle if those little pockets of light weren't escaping?

ring 2.PNG ring 1.PNG

Hey everyone! The ring is ready and I figured I would post the results here. Ya'll were a huge help and I would have been lost without the guidance and aid of this forum and its users.

I put a pic of the ring on my pinkie finger as a reference for size relative to finger. My gf is a size 6.5 ring finger and it fits pretty nicely on my pinkie so I assume that my pinkie is around a size 6.5 as well (maybe a tad smaller).

Overall, I'm really happy with the size and color. Like always, bigger is better but I feel that something around the 2 carat mark is a nice balance between looking big and still being reasonably affordable. I looked at some slightly larger examples but the point where I could easily see the difference in size between this 2.08 and those didn't happen until 2.6 carats and above. And to get a cut of that size that was of equal quality meant spending 10 to 15 grand more. Maybe in the future!

As for color, neither one of us were overly picky. Anything in the near colorless range was fine and quite frankly I have a hard time seeing the color in this diamond unless something bright white is place right next to it. And even then, I can really only see the difference in incandescent indoor lighting and when looking from the side. Going with an I or even a J in color with a good cut is a great way to get a much larger diamond at the same price point.

Anways, thanks again!

You did great! It’s a good size, looks sparkly and white. I hope she loves it!
