Ironic: women and in particular poor women without access to abortion can now have babies that may not have health care and food
Chills went down my spine when I got this email today. Blatantly political from an agency that has always been apolitical. Tentacles. EverywhereThere is already a campaign to convince people they are going to do better. But the limitations about who actually benefits are not stated
It's a lie about the SS beneficiaries not paying tax. It's not that high.
There is just 'the potential'.
It's also predicated on the beneficiary being under an income threshold of 25k/32K joint filers.
The bigger worry is that now they've gutted Medicare, the next target will be Social Security itself. They've been itching to take that from the people.
Love the fetus but starve the child
Could they actually be waking up to the fact that more people are finally realizing how awful this bill is? How people are realizing their families will be impacted negatively?
Too late now. People are getting what they chose, we all are!
I’m not sure it’s love that is being thrown at the fetus.
My take is it’s more about the sin of believing sex isn’t only for procreation.
So the government is saying "here, have this money, but then gimme some of it back in the form of tax"?!?
It's money that the person has paid into Social Security while working, and then getting it back.
Is it? I specifically checked to be sure I wasn't confused about it. Everywhere I read it says the US social security system works much like many places in Europe - the contributions made by the active workers are used to pay the benefits for the people receiving them. Maybe I missed something but nowhere did I read about individual accounts within the social security system. The money you're getting is the same money you've paid into it only if you have an individual account which holds your personal funds and no one else's.
But even if it's individual accounts - those aren't taxed here, either. The contributions made into them benefit from a partial tax exemption. It's money meant to support you during the time when you are no longer able to work, whether it's your age or health preventing you. It doesn't make sense to tax it, from a purely human standpoint.
Folks, a reminder to those new to the thread that we allow discussion of world events, but not politicians or political parties on PS. Additionally as always, no bashing of people with other viewpoints from you.
In short, you can discuss policies, but not politics or politicians.
My apologies, Ella. First time posting on this forum. It is a subject I'm very adamant about. But you're right, no place here for politics.
I will leave just saying this since as I understand it, we can talk about policies.
I'm not of fan of "The Big Beautiful Deal," and that is an understatement.
I will now take my leave here.
Thank you and I wish everyone well on this forum.

Rookie mistake, we all make them! You don’t need to rush off now that you know the rules. Everyone is welcome to post.
Fred there are political discussion forums a-plenty.Thank you, I appreciate that!
But if I cannot express my total feelings on the subject which is much more complicated than just speaking of the subject by itself and not being able of speaking of those responsible for the subject, I'll respectfully decline.
This really is not the place for it.![]()
Fred there are political discussion forums a-plenty.
We are also working out some idea to enable that on some revamping of the forums you may have noticed occurring on PS?
You have an amazing depth of knowledge on gemstones, and rarely - maybe never - have I challenged or disagreed with any advice you have given.
I am also of your vintage and stoopidity is my grumpiest failing.
But the help and advice you give people on gems is invaluable.
Our political feelings and beliefs need a different place for sharing![]()
