So being the fashionista that I am, I have it on good authority what colors we'll need to coordinate this time next year.

(Okay, my fashion sense is severely impaired but I did hear a segment on NPR about fashion trends

The colors for Fall 2011, drumroll please, are green and grey. So forget clothes, I'm thinking demantoid, peridot, tsavorite, blue/green sapphires, and emeralds (even though I don't really like them, they are green). But grey? Completely flummoxed  Grey diamond? Is there such a thing that looks good? Smoky quartz sort of? Labradorite? Come on you stone loving fashionistas, help us out with what we need to buy :naughty: to be prepared for the fashion season.

TL, I know how much you love grey modifiers :naughty: so I'm sure you're already all set to go!

 This cracked me up... don't get me wrong, I listen to NPR quite a bit, but I never thought of it as the "go to" place for fashion trends

Seems to me "green" should be easy, grey - not so much.

I know, right? NPR?!!

Lol! MB, you're funny! CL, I was thinking the same thing about NPR and fashion. The green is easy for me because I'm practically obsessed with green stones. For grey what about spinel, sapphire, or maybe moonstone?

ALL RIGHT! I have two new grey jackets and at least six rings with green stones. YAAAAAAAY

Hey, I love NPR!

Gray tourmaline and spinel?
It's a good thing we have a wide variety of green stones to choose from.

And there was me decking myself out in camel and brown! Oh well!

It's funny because my clothing is primarily black and grey, but my gems are not!!

I bought a light smoky quartz from Uli being set into a pendant right now, it's got a hint of grey??? Also bought grey pearls but these aren't stones. Got a couple of green stone rings.

Yay I'm set for this Fall/Winter! Except here it's summer now...

Noooo, don't go for matchy matchy...go for POP. Bright color often looks wonderful with gray...blue sapphire, bright pink and red, you get it, right?

Gray can have undertones of a lot of different colors, so pick the undertone up instead.

Black...matches most anything, maybe not brown, but a lot of other things...but again, a color pop would look great.

I have gray slacks and wear a lot of turquoise and teal with it and purple.

LADIES!! :wavey:

I have one word for you: Pearls!

The perfect grey jewelry is a lovely strand of Tahitian pearls!

Come over to the pearl sub-forum and see all the new eye candy that was just posted!

We have pearls in all colors, and shapes (no, not all of them are round) and sizes.

Come take a look!

And you don't wear little pearl button earrings with your strand anymore; you wear sapphires studs (with your blue Sea of Cortez pearl), tsavorite dangles (with your green overtone Tahitians), even ruby set hoops with your golden South Seas.

They're not your mother's pearls anymore!

(And about NPR; I'm sure they got this info from Pantone Inc. (google them) they really do set the trends for the years. I tend to ignore those trends, myself, otherwise I would have worn that hideous bright green a couple of years back. )

Yep. I just picked up a grey pearl this morning, and am thinking of pairing it with my Vance Gems demantoid. I had no idea I was on the cutting edge of fashion. :twirl: (See the Sea of Cortez thread over in Pearls.)

iLander, I'm afraid to go over there. I'm a student and I don't think my wallet can handle a pearl obsession!

Yum! I love that combination!

iLander...good point. I lurk in pearls at least once a week. Can't afford strands at the moment, but am trying to figure out how to afford a single really nice tahitian to wear on a cord. One of these days I'll post a picture of my natural pink freshwater pearls. (not cultured...natural!). I have three set in a ring.

Oh, come on, little girl . . . we have (eye) Candy . . .

Seriously, if you can scrape up about $150 bucks or so, we are all high on a new vendor that will set you up with some nice freshwaters:

Oh, we MUST SEE THAT! :cheeky:

Please post sooner, rather than later!

As for the Tahitian, we can fix you right up: http://www.tahitianpearls.biz/tahitian-pearl-necklace.htm

And to keep on topic, pink goes with gray! I'll try to clean up the pearls and take some pics to post. The setting is frankly not very good, and the pearls are not perfect, far from it, but I'll explain why they are special to me in that thread.

Wow, that is such a cool stone! It almost looks like it's a black and white photo. Do you mind sharing where you bought it? I hope you post lots of pictures when you get it! :))

Thanks burberrygirl. I ordered it from GemSelect. Once it gets here I will post more pictures of it and get the info off the cert. I would love to get it set in a James Meyer-esq setting.

Ooh, ooh, I've got it! Set your grey stone in green gold and you'll be all set! You won't need to wear a stitch more and you'll be so, as the french say, faconable :naughty:

A two-fer! I never even thought about green gold, hmmm, thinking some accents may be needed.

Love those gray spinels...they are, indeed like a black and white movie...slightly mysterious and moody depending on the lighting.

I would never have thought I would have liked a gray stone, but those are very nice.
