The "Healthy During A Pandemic" Thread!

Just came back from a 2 mile jog followed by 1 mile walk with dh and fur baby. As soon as we got home though, we both made our cocktails!

Here is mine: vodka, la croix seltzer and pineapple juice!

So you’ll love this… Chunky Monkey here decided to go for a big walk. I was doing just fine… until I fell down. Seriously. I was moving off to the side of the road because a car was coming up behind me. And my foot went half on/half off the edge where the pavement meets the grass. Dee Jay fall down, go boom. The guy in the car stopped in the middle of the road and was like, “OMG lady! Are you OK?” My pride was hurt more than anything of course, but came up with a palm full of gravel and my right knee is going to be black and blue for a month. Damn.

HI:

Short walk today in chilly weather. Better than nothing.

@Dee*Jay sorry for your tumble. You could have been seriously injured--glad you are OK.

cheers--Sharon

Thanks Sharon! The whole time I was in my slow motion free fall I was thinking "Dee is NOT going to the ER!"

I would like to join this thread. Since mid March I have been walking six days a week. Was walking 50 minutes a day until developed bursitis in left knee. Am currently taking a week off from walking but still lifting weights 3x per week. Weights are pretty light and no weight while doing squats until my knee recovers. So working on squat form while deciding what my next weight training program will be. I have dropped a clothing size since starting. Would like to eventually get back to 6x a week weight training but have a ways to go. I don't eat sugar,, dairy or most processed food but chicken nuggets are my downfall.

I’ve been eating relatively healthy without my usual traps of takeout and giant sweet coffees to fall into. Since last September I’ve lost almost 30 pounds which is a slooooow crawl.

Since quarantine I have taught myself to make sushi and that is a game changer!

I was going for walks daily but had to stop because my pollen allergies are so bad that between the congestion and stabbing throat pain, every night became a panic over whether it was allergies or covid. I think for me mentally, keeping active in the house with cleaning and painting projects may just be the better way to go until the allergens in the air go down.

We continue walking most days and I continue doing my elliptical workout before our walks. We are now at the beach house so I am without my Pilates Reformer but I am hoping for the delivery of my newly purchased Reformer within a couple of weeks. Disappointed I cannot get it faster but it's OK. I continue with free weights on a daily basis too (6 days a week alternating muscle groups every other day).

Since we are now at the beach house we are able to walk without masks (so far and we will see what happens when beach season and summer and tourists arrive) and that is a huge difference. Feels so great to walk unencumbered by a mask!).

You can see how beautiful our backdrop for walking is and how empty it is (for now). Blissful ♥
Trying to reach 7 miles daily. We cannot always do that because we are restricted by time as my DH is still working albeit from home but most days we can reach that goal.

I am sorry you are suffering from pollen allergies. We are too and what I find helps is taking a Sudafed before our walks and showering as soon as we get back home to get the pollen off us. I have definitely been sneezing a lot and stuffed up more than usual and I attribute it to the pollen.

Congrats on your planned weight loss! Amazing. :appl:
Slow and steady is what wins the race!

The easiest way to lose weight without concern for food is to get an upset stomach. Lost 2 lbs in a week, if only I can maintain this and keep working on it now that I've got a head start. LOL

But in seriousness, I'm thinking of doing two walks per day instead of my usual one especially since the weather is warming up now. Oddly enough, we had sprinkles of snow twice this May. The latest I've even seen snow is in March.

I have heel spurs and a bad left hip, probably both weight related but I did a 20 minute walk yesterday. Then today DH and I walked to downtown which is 2.5 miles down and back. Trying to eat a little better, every little bit right?

Happy Tuesday kid! Just back from a walk -- 10,000 steps and I stayed upright for all of them!

Food today has been a mix... but I guess that's better than all bad, right?!

I'm not sure I'm going to have time for a walk tomorrow, or if I do it will be later (after 6 pm) because of all the things on my calendar through the day. If it's still warm(ish) and pretty light when I get done with my last thing I'll go though, and maybe I can get TR to join me.

Thank you! If I lose another 30 or so, I’ll be in a perfectly acceptable weight range and that’s really the goal with everything going on.

HI:

Brisk walk today--again a little chilly. That wind!

Tomorrow is supposed to be warm--hopefully bike ride is in order.

cheers--Sharon

Back from physical therapy today. Worked on lower body exercises. Am now cleared to gein walking and resuming full weight program. It's a shame that it will be raining here for the next two days.

Haha, isn't that the truth!

Wishing you great success with this. :appl: (That's me cheering you on ;-))

This is a great thread! @Dee*Jay
And you always make me laugh with your fun sense of humor.

:lol-2: (And I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt previously.)

Happy Wednesday kids!

BMI, I'm glad we are all here together and can make each other laugh!

Managed to get my 10K steps in early after all today! Spent the first hour trekking the neighborhood while listening to a call and the last half hour finishing up an audio book. Is that crazy; that it takes me an hour and a half to walk about 5 miles... ? No idea what's "normal" but I swear at some point I'm like REALLY? HOW much longer/farther? And the worst part is I went back toward the house with the intention of passing it and going in the other direction and the draw was like a magnet! It was all I could do to keep going, LOL.

Since the time I've returned I've eaten a bunch of stuff I probably shouldn't, have but hey, I would have eaten that anyway even without the walk so I'm ahead, right?! :cheeky:

HI:

18K ride and a short walk in fine weather! Yay!

cheers--Sharon

Happy Thursday kids!

Another 10K steps logged on the neighborhood streets! And for today's injury I bring you a big blister on my right heel. My socks got wet due to a little right right when I started out and that's what I figured it was until I got in the shower and the water stung. I've got lots of compeeds left from my hiking days though, so I slapped one of those on and I'll be right as rain by tomorrow.

We're doing beef kabobs with red and yellow peppers and onions for dinner. :lickout:

HI:

Super windy today--so no cycling. Walked about then went to shop for a new deck chair. Found one and dragged it home. It was heavy!

cheers--Sharon
