The Gen Z stare - have you noticed this?

I have noticed that some seem to have a dull affect. I thought maybe it was all the weed, but no one smoked more than the boomers, and they're fine. lol So now I'm thinking it's either that this generation is overmedicated or maybe it's a cultural thing. I'm a millennial and definitely feel like they seem disengaged, almost as if it's uncool to be vibrant? I don't know... I suppose every generation thinks the next one is strange.

I’ve seen the stare. I attribute it to people looking at phones multiple hours per day and having inadequate interpersonal skills. What I really find strange is they often are working at jobs where it’s a requirement of the job to converse with people.

Went out to lunch today - party of three. I reached the hostess stand first where there was a beautiful young lady standing behind the stand. There were no other waiting customers. I said, “Hello, how are you?” And was met with the silent stare! No ‘can I help you’ - nothing but the stare. I finally told her we were a party of three. She picked up three menus and walked in front of us to a booth. That was it - she never uttered a word!! Completely unacceptable!

Prior to that, I was at my bank. Sitting at a desk with a bank rep doing some bank business. The tellers were to our far left. Yet every time a customer walked in the door, at least one teller said hello and welcomed them. What a difference in these two places! I expect to be spoken to when entering a restaurant - not as much so when entering a bank. At either place though, it makes a world of difference. Stop the stare!!
