What is the effective way to shop for diamond bracelets? I am starting from virtually NO idea about these products. Any reference websites would be very helpful.
If you are talking about those classic and understated tennis bracelets, I would say there's no rule. The most common shapes are princess and round. As for the sizes... Anywhere from 0.01cts each to 0.35cts each (in the most common designs, of course). If you want a simple line bracelet, then you'll need at least 50 pieces, depending on the size of the stones and the way they are set. Some designs alternate a diamond to a wave (like that o~o~o~o), other have metal barrs -o-o-o-o-o- (where 'o' is the stone). So you can pretty much choose the style you like.
As for quality, you'll find anything from DEF/VVS to Light brown (OPQR color) in I 3 clarity. My personal suggestion would be to choose stones ranging from G to J in color --at those smaller sizes they face up extremely white and VS 2-SI 2 clarity, which is really not an issue when it comes to melee (melee is a term that refers to diamonds <0.23ct each). I would pay a great deal of attention to the cutting of those little babies: the cut quality of the melee does indeed matter. Of course you don't need H&A's, but be sure to select nicely made stones, not like the lumpy and dull ones you see at the mall.

DirtCheapDiamonds has some styles with the possibility of choosing the quality you prefer. Tradeshop has some too. GoodOldGold stocks some cherry picked tennis bracelets. Nice Ice stocks fabulous melee, so I think it wouldn't be a problem for them put up the bracelet for you. WhiteFlash has some exceptionally well cut mini H&Aa diamonds, starting at 0.01ct.
I think those babies are all in the DEF range and VVS to VS 2 clarity.
