Tennis Bracelet Sizing

I’m super conflicted! My wrist is 5.5”, granted it is cold right now but I’m in Southern California so not very cold, but wrist could swell slightly in summer. I was thinking of getting a 6.5” tennis bracelet, I like it a bit loose but not too loose. My jeweler said they usually recommend only adding .5”. It will be classic 4 prong, 10 carats if that makes a difference. Would love some opinions on sizing! I’m super torn on what to do.

Try cutting some paper or heavy string or twine to length. This might help you determine how far down on your hand you would like the bracelet to hang. Once it gets to the heel of your hand, see if that is comfortable for you (it is not for me). If the bracelet is too big, it leaves room for you to possibly catch it on something and break. Of course, you will always have the links that the jeweler will take out so they can be added back at anytime. I honestly don’t think the wrist swells much but can change size as your weight changes.

Thank you! I tried the paper trick but couldn’t quite get the full picture since the bracelet will be heavier. I like a bit of slack and for it to hang down a bit. But like you pointed out if it’s too big I assume it will bother me when it’s touching my hand and could potentially catch on something.

My wrist is 5 3/4” and my bracelet is 6 1/2” from tip to tip. Maybe 6 1/4” for you?IMG_0198.jpeg

Wow beautiful ring and bracelet! May I ask the specs on your eternity band? Getting married next year and I love yours!!
Regarding bracelet. How much slack does yours have? Would you mind sending a photo showing how long it hangs on wrist? I would so appreciate it! Thank you so much!!

I have a 5.75" wrist and usually need to shorten bracelets. I can wear a 6" dainty chain bracelet, but a 6.75" bracelet that's a little thicker/weightier fits me the way it sounds like you want this to fit you. In a perfect world this would probably be 6.5". 10 ctw would be a pretty substantial bracelet so it should have some heft to it if well-made and hopefully the links wouldn't be floppy. I can fit two fingers between my wrist and this bracelet for context.

I don't think I would get 6" in your position but I might get 6.25" or 6.375" rather than 6.5".

6.75":

6.25" and 6" but much thinner:

Thank you - my ring is a five stone band. 2.00 carat weight; .40 each diamond made by Memoire. I opted for larger diamonds but not an eternity. Too afraid I would damage diamonds on the palm side of my right hand.

So hard to photograph with no help - lol! I can fit a finger comfortably in between my bracelet and my wrist.

Amazon has CZ tennis bracelets that are 6.5" long. Could you wear that for a bit before you decide?

I would order the longer length. I had my tennis bracelet shorten twice and I kept the spare stones if I need to add them back or if I damage a stone. It wasn't expensive.

I prefer to add a half inch to my wrist measurement myself. With a half inch it hangs a little, but not too much. I can still get two fingers in between the bracelet and my wrist. I second Chere's recommendation. Your best bet is going to be buying inexpensive CZ tennis bracelets on Amazon in the sizes you're considering. . I personally would try the 6in first since I'm of the opinion that a half inch added to wrist measurement looks nice.

Thank you so much! That helps me a lot.
Thank you for the ring specs as well, yours is gorgeous! Such a good point about eternity’s. I’ve been going back and forth for that reason too.

What about going to some nice jewelry stores and trying them on for size?

My wife’s tennis bracelet. A little under 4 ctw, 3 prong, WG setting bought from Lesley at BGD a few years ago. Note 7” long, she has slim to average wrist, 5’5”, 115 lbs. Hope this helps.IMG_0184.jpeg

Thank you, great suggestion, for the most part I don’t believe stores have the size I would need to try on. 6, 6.25 or 6.5 seem to be more custom sizes. That’s why I’m having it made. Do you happen to know your wife’s wrist? I’ve decided I definitely don’t want 6” I just like more movement on my 5.5” wrist so just deciding between 6.25 and 6.5!

I was able to try on a 6.5” 5 carat bracelet and it was quite large, however, my jeweler said that 10 carat will fit a bit smaller at the same size 6.5” because of the larger diamonds. Does this sound accurate to anyone?

You can order a 5mm tennis bracelet on Amazon in 6” and 6.5”…

No, it doesn't sound right to me. The overall length is the overall length regardless of the size or number of diamonds in the bracelet. Is the 10 carat bracelet 6.5"?

With the 10 carat it will be a thicker bracelet which eats up some length, but unless the 6.5" was only borderline too long and not much too long, I would still go shorter. 6.25" erring on the side of a little longer will probably work well.

Just did this drill for my wife’s WF 4ct, went 6.75”

My wrist is a hair under 5.75", I went 6.25" and it's great but if doing it again I'd go 6". The weight means it will move++ with gravity, esp at that TCW.

I have had the same experience as @pancake. I typically wear 7” in chain bracelets with a 6” wrist. I need to go smaller in my diamond bracelet due to the weight. It moves a lot on my wrist and I have concerns about hitting it on things.

I also had a learning curve on measurements. Your jeweler mentioned the inside circumference which is a thing. I bought a 7” chain bracelet that is larger diameter and it fit tighter than my other chains. It was perplexing because it measured 7” like the rest of them but fit tighter when on.
