I thought about this... but then I also thought it is a J, the color is what it is, and either I will be ok with it or I won''t, KWIM? But maybe that is not the way to think of it. Maybe the 6 prong is the way to go???Date: 5/4/2010 7:15:25 PM

I vote #1, even if it''s a hundred more. #2 leaves the pavilion wide open to view, and if you''re worried the colour of the J will bother you seeing it in all its unfettered glory may not be a good thing, and loving your stone is more important than loving your temp setting, if that makes sense?
Haha I could just be more able to sink myself into denial than you. You don''t sound like you want six, and though I said it''s more important to love your stone I do think it''s important to at least like your temp setting - it''ll be a tough relationship otherwiseDate: 5/4/2010 7:21:32 PM

I did notice that in the last month that I had my G SI2 I stopped *looking* for the inclusions and you know what? They didn''t bug me anymore. I loved that diamond and if it had been the size I wanted I would have KEPT that sucker in a heartbeat. So I will be making an effort not to *look* for tint in this diamond and not scrutinize it for its flaws. A good policy to apply to all of my loved one''s I think![]()

Point taken, but that is a 4 prong in the picture and the pollDate: 5/4/2010 7:17:53 PM

I much prefer the 4-prong: I am really not a fan of the prongs on the 6-prong. They just look industrial to me, somehow (could be the extreme close-up). I vote for the more rounded effect ....
I went back and edited my posts to make things clearer. The poll options are both 4 prongs. There is also a 6 prong option that is similar to Option 2, which is pictured in my reply to Circe.Date: 5/4/2010 7:38:31 PM

Yeah, I don't like that particular 6-prong if you can help it. So clunky and 'industrial' is your word, right? But I am partial to the 4s generally so take my opinion with that grain of salt.
ETA: I am confused by your poll - which choice is the 6 prong?
Widths I like to vary... thickness NO. I hate when my rings protrude different heights off the finger, that is going to be the problem with #2.Date: 5/4/2010 7:49:13 PM

I prefer the second. I love all versions of the Tiff ring (but in 4 prong).
I actually like it when the widths don''t match. It makes for a more interesting set. You can always add another band too.
I would like to wear it for at least a year, perhaps longer.Date: 5/4/2010 7:52:03 PM

I didn''t vote because I have a question:
I much prefer the basket, but how temp is temp? Are you planning on wearing this for years before you get the permanent setting?
No, I have not considered that. I think it is too late to consider since I need the ring ready in, oh... 9 days! Not that I am counting. As it is BGD will have to rush to get the basket one in time! We are picking the ring up on our anniversary trip to Seattle, thus the rush!Date: 5/4/2010 7:58:35 PM

Since this is just a temporary setting, have you considered getting a LOGR setting?

Here is a different 6 prong option. The prongs are the hang up for me on this ring and on the 4 prong in the poll.

So between the two setting you posted, here are my toughts
#1, it is actually $200 more because you have to get a new band right? What are you going to do with them after you reset your diamond? When I got my temp setting, I first thought I was going to keep it and set a colored stone. But I am not crazy about the setting, and did not want to buy another colored stone when I already have a collection of loose ones that need a home. So Brian is going to give me half the price for it. But between the 2, I like the looks of it.
Setting #2 - my temp setting (which is no longer mine). It looks really great from the top down. The diamond is a medium height. I would not go much higher because I am worried it would interfere with my life. Brian actually told me he set my ring with my job in mind and would not recommend going any higher. With a toddler running around, you might want to think about the height issue. But, the side view is very exposed, and you may see the tint when driving your car or other times your ring is at an angle. The prongs were the issue for me too, but they need to be thick to protect the stone. But, it was the prongs that drove me to reset it.
Clearly I can talk about #2 more because I lived with it for 5 months. I thought of it as a nice ''temp'' setting. I still got joy from looking at my ring. I probably could have lived with it for another 6 months and been happy. But I knew I had to find something more refined for me to really love the ring.
*Threadjack* I am wearing my sapphire solitaire on my L hand right now. Already one person asked me if me and FI are ok, and when asked why, she said the ''diamond was gone.'' Can''t a sapphire act as an e-ring to. Of course I know the answer is ''yes'' but that was a little shocking.![]()
This is a good suggestion! I think if I were to go with a simple 4 prong this is what I would do. I have asked for a quote. Below is the setting I like, it belongs to ecf8503.Date: 5/4/2010 8:21:46 PM

Have you considered the stuller solstice at all? I got a quote from Lesley for about $240 in 14K IIRC, and I much prefer the prongs than the standard 4/6 prong tiffany. Otherwise I would choose option 1![]()
ETA: I think you can choose a cathedral shank with stuller too.
LOL! If I loved either then I would not need help I suppose...Date: 5/4/2010 10:49:38 PM

Gah, I don''t love either.. Want something more fluid for you. I am tired.. But will check in tomorrow...![]()
