Tanzanite, why so low?

What about something like this? Very Renaissance. You can still hang it off some pearls.
Of course, the tanzie would be in the middle. I''d certainly have an excuse to get more stones.....

Oh,oh, I seem to have forgotten that my stone is round!!

Karen,

You are right. I have no fashion or color sense anyway. I just know what I like and then ask a professional (someone with color sense) if it looks good to them. What do you want? I''m a guy.

Here is the pair of 7.7 round blue/violet tanzanites. I will also post other pictures for comparison to color.

Compare to what I think is top blue color.

Slightly lighter tone cushions.

Blue tanzanite along side tsavorite chain. Tanzanite is 4 carats.

LOL...Translucent...now you''ve got me looking for pendant ideas for you!

I agree with Loupe...less is more...especially for that big beautiful stone!

Here are some pendant ideas I kinda like...

Oh! I like that orange round... and would really love it without those rabbit ears attached

That frame could definitely bear pave or engraving as well.

Thanks Widget, those are very good examples. I like the round orange one!!
Would definitely look cool with some fancy engraving around the rim. Maybe
even sneek some tiny stones on the rim of the rim. Perpendicular-like, so they
can only be seen from the side. Decadent! Sly, even!

Ana, can you work some more Photoshop magic and turn the stone blue??
I go for eliminating the bunny ears too on that particular style.

Nice stones MJO! Hmmmm...I don''t know if I can afford earings after having this rock set.
I think this is going to end up costing me mucho. Oh I have to face it, everything ends up costing
me mucho. Okay, how much is it going to cost me?

If this is not convincing, I could do better.

Speaking of diamond-sprinkled engraving (is that what you mean ? ) how about THIS (not a pendant, I know, just some nice use of engraving

).

MJO,

That''s a loaded question! All I can say is MORE!

Translucent,

Have you noticed how much people want to dress up your tanzanite? I am simply amazed at the variety of ideas coming out of the contributors to this thread. Why don''t you stop now before your eyes glaze over, print out what you like or log on to this thread at your designer''s store. Show them what has popped up. Another way to get your point across is with print. Pick up a copy of any magazine that features high end design with any gemstone. Ignore the gems and imagine your tanzanite in the picture and take it to your first session with the designer. A picture is worth a thousand words. This is much easier and less time consuming than taking a concept from a person and transalating it into a counter sketch, then to wax. Your designer will appreciate your research because of the time saved. Don''t fall into the trap of having something copied, you will meet yourself on the street and nasty things can happen to your designer for copyright infringement. Do a "kinda like..." so that your piece has your input and your originality in it. That''s why it''s called "custom design". The custom-er had something to do with it. I know you will get what you want, in the end. Just come back with a picture for the obligatory drooling and acclamations that make up so much of this forum.

Ana,

I wish I could do the editing of pictures you can. The design work around the stone is beautiful. I think I will have that done with one of my round madarins. Please do not sue me for copyright infringments .

Karen,

What can I say I have "BIG ROCKS"

Yes, of course, one must never copy any design directly. I think though, that a wide metal
rim around a stone is pretty much without copyright! At least I hope so. I will try to
draw it out on paper and tweak it to my satisfaction.

My designer told me a funny story.....she won a couple of jewelry awards and a pair of earrings
of hers were featured on the cover of a magazine one year. One day a fellow jeweler called her up
and asked if she could copy a design for him. It turned out to be her magazine cover earrings
.......unbeknownst to him. Hah! Yeah, she had a real laugh (being sarcastic)....

Oh the naughty designer lent me a magazine called "Dreams", yesterday. I couldn''t sleep. All those
jewels! I dreamed I went to Sikh heaven! My room plastered in tanzanites, demantoids, diamonds and
a huge alexandrite under my bed. Or was it two.

Lovely transformation...thanks Ana!

MJO, hahahahaha, "big rocks". I think I might use that to make up a line for use on my husband. With your permission,
naturally. Something along the lines of "Sweety, you''re the only man I know of with such big rocks".
Might get me some more stones! Anyway, if someone else can think of a better line, let me know.

That setting is available at a low cost from stullers they also have a variation with scroll work cut in the side of the bezel.
Any jeweler should be able to get them for you.

I didn't know the orange thing is Sphene ! That pendant should be spectacular

About Stuller... well, I don't remember to have seen that setting, but it would be very lucky to find one of just the right size. And forget engraving and diamonds on the side with a stock piece
7.gif

Sphene? I just sent one to RH for a recut. It''s a flawless triclor and should come back over 5cts hummmmmmmmmmmm.

Translucent,

Tanzanite pairs up nicely with a variety of gems. Recently set as a pearl pendant with a green tourmaline and another with a pinkish red tourmaline, worked very well.

Thanks Richard. I was just thinking about pink tourmaline. How odd you should mention it.
The tanzanite has nice violet undertone, so pink might just be smashing.
And, green or pink, the tourmalines would be much cheaper than demantoids.

I found some more round pendant ideas.

Another.... (gold granulation by Kent Raible)
If you like gold granulation you might want to check this jeweler out .

Translucent,

This is exactly what I meant when I said less is more. Nothing there but some interesting gold work and a great neck piece. You can wear it with anything because you won''t have added features like pink, green or any other color fighting for your attention. It''s just tanzanite. A big tanzanite. Where did you find this one?

"Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel."

Karen, the granulated setting is by Kent Raible, just as Ana wrote. True, a big stone deserves a setting that will showcase "it/her".
I just wanted to sneak in some pave around the pendant on the extreme edge of the rim so that the little sparklies
can be seen only when viewing the pendant in profile.

Look Ana, I did a little Photoshopping!!

tanzanite fix.jpg

Wow that would be amazing!!!!

Hmmmmm.......here is the other one but with pinkish stones.

Either looks fantastic... and eerily real in the photoshoped pictures

Definitely liked your idea to set diamond accents on the outer rim of the bezel (where they show from the side, that is).
