Purchased a Tacori 2510 setting today for a future e-ring and the jeweler told me they could have it set for me to pick up the next day. I was under the impression that the Tacoris had a 4-6 week lead time. The one in the case they were setting had a 1.1ct princess cz, whereas I'm putting in a 0.9ct princess. It looks like on since1910, this would be a different size ring? Should I be worried about this or as long as the ring looks ok, not worry about it? I did confirm that the case ring was the size that I needed so they may be pulling this one, but would this ring be a display ring handled and shipped to who knows where or do stores typically have inventory of this?

The jeweler is a well known and respected jeweler in Indianapolis that deals with Tacori, so I'm not worried about the "replica" aspect (although I did find an IDENTICAL classique setting at another store for $3,000 less!). Just don't want to spend $6,000 on a setting and it have flaws or something.

I'm not 100% positive (I know...) but I am think a 6.5. She has a 7 now that fits or is sometimes loose on her right hand, an I have been told the left runs smaller if she is right handed. I don't have a way to find out without being obvious and it will be a total surprise and she only has the 1 ring, so I can't steal one.

I'm going to email and see if it is the sample ring...

It's not the greatest idea to resize rings with diamonds in the shank, but if it is a little too big, the thing to do is to put in sizing beads and then later in life if she needs it larger, the beads can be removed and it will not disturb the diamonds in the shank (band).

They are trying to sell you the sample and I would not accept that. I would want my diamond sent to Tacori and the setting custom made to the size of my diamond and her finger size. It should come with a Tacori warranty which is very important in case future repairs need to be made. No way would I pay full price for a sample Tacori setting that was not made for my stone. But I'd be most afraid that Tacori wouldn't warranty it.

Thank you for reaffirming my concerns. I was told it would come with both the tacori warranty and the jeweler warranty, but I just do not want to pay that much for a setting and it be a display model that's been dropped and handled and who knows what. I have emailed the jeweler and will call in the morning to get more information. They have my diamond since they were going to set it, so they should be able to send it off to Tacori.

Anyone have any sneaky ideas how to find out a ring size without giving it away? Lol

I think it is a good idea to insist on the ring being made by Tacori especially since your diamond is not the exact size of the cz.

Gosh, we have had a lot of guys ask the sizing question, but since you have already told us that she has no rings that she wears on that hand, the borrow the ring trick won't work. And I am always nervous when people suggest trying to measure with a string while she is sleeping! I am quite sure that would wake me up! A little too big is better than a little too small because of the sizing beads. So I think your guess of 6.5 is pretty good, but it could likely be 6-6.5 if a 7 is a little loose on her right hand.

It shouldn't be a problem. All the Tacori rings have a range of size that they can use. I'm sure if you have concerns they can always order a new one for you, but it will probably take 4 weeks. If time isn't a concern, you may want to go that way.

I spoke with the jeweler and confirmed that the ring was not the display model, and that this ring has only been at their facility after being ordered from Tacori for 5 days and I'm the first one to look at it. She said if I wanted, she could order me a new one and wait the 4 weeks, or I could take this one and if there is anything I don't like about it, send it back. The dimensions on my diamond and the CZ were very similar. I figured if it's brand new and exactly what I want anyways, why wait as long as it is perfect. If not, I'll send it back and order one from Tacori since time is not an issue. We will see tomorrow when it comes.

There was a thread not too long ago, about someone who purchased a Tacori setting from their jeweler and had the jeweler set the diamond, later when they had problems, they were informed by Tacori that the ring was no long under warranty as they had someone other than Tacori set the diamond and size the ring. I would make sure to ask these questions before agreeing to the purchase of the ring they have in stock and before they set the stone. I would get their response in writting as well. I'll see if I can locate the thread for you.

You had mentioned that your jeweler and Tacori had a warranty, so you should be covered. We generally set all of our diamonds in our Tacori settings and they are also all warranted by Tacori as well as us. Haven't had any problems. Good luck with your purchase. :wavey:

I would want to be certain they are not sizing it, and I would want to have it totally clear that you will receive the Tacori warranty so that if there are any future problems such as lost small stones (which does happen), that the ring would be sent to Tacori for repair. In fact, I would insist on all of this in writing. Have them show you the size of the ring before setting your stone.

I WOULD NOT do this!!!

Our jewelers told us the same thing. That the warranty would be covered if they set my stone. I called Tacori just to make sure. They stated that No one other than Tacori can set a Tacori ring. I would advise that you order a new one.

I couldn't find the specific thread that I was looking for, but I would suggest that you do a PS search for 'problems with Tacori rings' and read a few threads about other PSer experiences before you commit to this ring. From a couple of the threads that I read, it sounds as though many of the vendors used the long wait period to push the sample settings onto their customers. IMO, 4 weeks is not so long to wait for the ring of a lifetime! ;)

EDIT I just wanted to add that the ring may come with the Tacori warranty and an additional warranty from the jeweler, however, you should still be absolutely clear that if another jeweler works on the ring (setting the diamond, sizing the ring etc) that it will not void out the tacori warranty as I suspect that it does. You should also get in writing what each of these warranties covers and what specifically will cancel coverage. For instance, most vendors will not take responsibility for setting a diamond that they did not sell, you need to know all of this before letting anyone work on your ring.

DO NOT DO THIS. You want Tacori to make and set the stone. PERIOD. Not the jeweler. And if this jeweler makes you feel like you can't trust that Tacori is making the ring to order and setting the stone, find another. Well-respected jewelers do it right, and this guy doesn't sound like he's doing it right if it's not made to order and set by Tacori themselves.

This is what happens when the jeweler sets the stone in one of their models. Tacori makes every ring to the specific measurements of your stone. See the gap between the diamond and under carriage? Also, when they move the prongs to put your diamond in they will get warped. Please do yourself a favor and order a custom fit.

It is sad, but we are warning you because we have seen SO many problems not sending the diamond to Tacori to have the ring custom made. Unless you have a need to propose in the next 4 weeks and cannot wait, send your diamond to Tacori and never let anyone but Tacori touch the ring for sizing or repairs or you void your warranty.

Very sorry if this happened to you, jgengo. Your ring is beautiful, though!

Argh! I wish I would have seen this a few hours ago. :errrr: I contacted the jeweler and told them I would rather have it custom ordered and the diamond sent to Tacori to have them set it instead of the one they have. We will see what happens because I am not sure if they have already set it in the one they had. I was under the impression that it had to be ordered from the beginning, but figured for the area they are in and since they are practically the only place in Indiana that sells Tacori that they would know what they were talking about. Too good to be true.

Time is not a factor so the wait is not a problem for me. Heck it may be beneficial so that I'm not drooling over it. Thank Heavens for this site. You all are a lifesaver.

yes, it did happen to me. However, I did not accept the ring and sent it right back. Got my diamond back and then had it done the right way. I had to wait 5 weeks, but it was definitely worth it!

I think that you're making the right decision. And it doesn't matter if they have already set the ring or not, they can unset it and ship it to Tacori to ensure that there is no question regarding your warranty. Make sure to ask for the certificate of authenticity and all warranty cards as well, and that you want the Tacori ring box. For some reason I've heard that some people receive their Tacoris' in the vendors ring box, but I'd want the one from Tacori. ;))

Agree with everyone else--only Tacori should set a Tacori ring! They are very intricate settings, and the warranty is void if someone else does it.

Good decision! And just a word of caution. Check the stone with a loupe when you go to pick it up to be sure it looks like it is set well. Then absolutely look at the paperwork and be sure you have something that indicates the ring was special ordered from Tacori and has the Tacori warranty. Do this just to be sure they didn't set it in the ring they already had.

jgengo...so glad to hear you were able to get your ring done right!
