Stucked in these 2 diamonds. Please help to choose!

OP
The Diane experts are going to need much more than a GIA report.
The HCA tool is not a selection tool but rather a rejection tool.
Can you get an ASET?

The 1.00 F VS1 is more promising than the E color.. Do you have any price preference? I rather pick a diamond that I can see under the scopes. =)2

I'm in Hong Kong and the diamond shop doesn't provide Aset or idealscope images =[

Oh! In that case I will consider buying online that can provide the lightperformance of my diamond.. ;)2

:)Hi Kay,

The F has a better crown angle than the E. I take it you are able to view these in person. I would look at them in different types of lighting .....natural daylight and also away from the store lighting to see which one looks better to you.

Hi Kay,
Is there a cultural reason for choosing such high color? Also, these are SI1 clarity so make sure you scrutinize them in all lighting conditions up close and also with the 10x loupe to make sure there are no inclusions that will bother you. I had an SI stone that looked perfect in the store but I could see pinpoints while driving to work.....it bugged me enough to return the stone.:???:

The nice thing about Hong Kong is that they do not have an import duty. You have to go through some paper work if you make a return so that there is no charge to the seller when the diamond is returned, but that is minor compared to the often non-refundable amounts that some countries charge.

Wink

Ooooooh, if there is no import duty you may want to consider buying online. If you don't mind telling us your budget and the price of the diamonds you are looking at, the experts here may be able to find you a beautiful stone at a better price!!!=)2

$7500 bare stone...ideal cut ....E or F color eye clean

In here (asia country) most people will get D E F......also most jewelry store sells bad cutting diamond

Hi Kay,

I am babysitting my grandaughter today but will try to look online for some nice stones later. Does it have to be a carat or can it be slightly below? You can save a lot of money if you buy just below the carat mark but still have the look of a carat. Maybe some of the experts can chime in as well.:twirl:

I will say only that it is exceedingly rare to catch a super well cut diamond in the just under 1 carat size as most cutters will swindle cut the diamond to make it fat enough to weigh one carat and thus sell for more money than the most perfect 0.95 ct cut will sell for. Only when there is a defect in the starting crystal that prevents the overweight cutting from working are these rare crystals grabbed up by great cutters and sold as the cut they really should be. These can be such things as an inclusion that would be kept at the 1.00 ct level that lowers the clarity grade or some other deal breaker at the 1.00 ct level.

When you see one of these unicorns that is truly well cut, snag it up right away, they do not last long.

Be careful though, not to snag one that the cutter thought would finish at 1.00 or slightly better and ended up ugly at 0.98 or so.

You still have to do your homework.

at least 1ct for me...

Also, how to make sure my diamonds are fresh and not wore by someone else in the past? Can the GIA inscription be erased?

The only way to be totally certain of that is to get a stone custom cut.
The inscription can be polished off and the stone recerted - which any vendor should anyway so possible wear marks or changes are noted.

Just got to say I love these two words - stucked and swindlecut- kind of describes my history with diamonds.....okay, hijack over.

There is not way to know for sure, but somewhere around 20% or more of the diamonds on the open market are estimated to be previously worn. That would include trade-ins, estate piences, and diamonds recut from modern or antique stones.

I would also say that any diamonds from the following brands would be unworn by another party and or they would tell you about its background (if it was a trade-in or recut): Whiteflash Crafted by Infinity, Brian Gavin in house lines, Victor Canera diamonds, High Performance Diamonds-Crafted by Infinity, GoodOld Gold Ascendence, August Vintage Brand ovals and antique cuts, anything cut by @diagem, etc.

All the big online vendors likely cannot offer an assurance...James Allen, Blue Nile, B2C, Enchanted Diamonds, etc.

Is there a way in your culture to "cleanse" stones of energy and attachments from previous owners? Cultures vary, but some traditions I'm aware of include burying them in the earth, placing them in salt, dunking them in holy water and they are then blessed by a priest, placing them on a family alter and surround them with jade and other powerful gems, etc.

:shock:Back to the topic is the F color one has better proportion than E color? It doesnt have idealscope but i have an ideal cut diamond got from WF and i will be comparing it tomorrow.

The diamond is for my friend and he wants to get it locally.

I am from HK too, as you are also an online buyer while owning a WF stone, I believe you know the quality difference between these ideal stones and the local stone we can generally buy here in HK. Did you think about further advising your fd to consider purchase online. As for the price, buying online may not be as cheap as those HK "upstair shops", but could still be lower than chain stores like chow tai fook, etc. Just my thoughts ofcox~

It is so true Wink. I tried to look for something close to .9c within .8c range but failed to locate any in all vendors I looked at, and thus I went for the route of custom cut. I just started my project and is looking forward to it~

If you own a WF ACA stone, make sure it's very clean for the comparison viewing.
