The Strawberry moon is tonight. Of course, it seems my area will be covered in clouds, as usual, so if anyone gets good photos please post them.

very dark but clear last night
i remembered this thread and i saw a very full moon
but not very strawberry ???
i surpose i should have taken a picture and asked some questions

I saw it both nights and I don't get it
It was just a big bright but kinda creamy moon

According to the article, a 'strawberry moon' is just a fancy name for a full moon in June. A quote from the article:

It has nothing to do with the colour of the Moon.
"The name comes from North American Indigenous peoples, marking the time of the [wild] strawberry harvest," Mr Woods said.

According to the article this full moon had another special feature. The moon's orbit is at close to a major lunar standstill. So this full moon was exceptionally low in the sky (viewed from the northern hemisphere) or high in the sky (viewed from the southern hemisphere).

Right, it doesn't really look pink but in the northern hemisphere it is very low on the horizon and looks very large. I didn't see it, but some I know did and it did look somewhat pink to them but that was right around sunset when there are other colors. Here's some photos from NPR.
