I love my engagement ring and the diamond that my husband picked out for me. But I'll be honest, I don't love the profile view of the ring and I usually prefer 6 prongs over 4 for round stones. The head is very tall and even though I am very careful with my jewelry, I have knocked the stone loose 2 or 3 times already (but thankfully I was able to have the prongs tightened before I lost the stone).

I have talked to Denise at BGD about changing the head to a lower 6-prong head. I actually want to cut out part of the band and replace it with a donut and the tiffany-inspired head shown below. Denise said that based on my photos, they are fairly certain it can be done but they need to see the ring first.
My question is - do you think going with 6 prongs on a stone this size (0.79ct, 5.93 x 5.95mm) will make the stone look smaller because the prongs will "swallow" up the stone? Is the fact that it will be set lower also going to cause the stone to look smaller? Or will the 6 prongs actually make it look slightly larger? I know a lot of people don't think 6-prong heads should be used on stones under 1 ct but I don't like that the 4-prong setting makes the stone look slightly square-ish.
I know many will suggest that I just buy a whole new setting but I am sentimental about this one so that is not an option at this point. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!!
