First of all, thank you for all your input. To JulieN, sorry that my GF does not like those princess ones you suggested. To her, anything measures less than 5mm is small and she tends to look for something bigger. However, money does not allow this at this time. Finally, we agree to go with this one. I found it on both Jamesallen and mondera. The price on Jamesallen is 2610 and on Mondera is $2443.

Shape: Round
Weight: 0.76 Carat
Cut Grade: Ideal

Fluorescence: Strong blue

Should I go with Mondera knowing that it does not offer lifetime upgrade? I see upgrade as a future option but not totally sure at this moment.

Second, does that strong blue fluorescence concern you?

By the way, can you tell the difference between a close to 5 and 5 mm princess cut ones? If you''re not tired, please look at these options and let me know if anything''s superior than the round one above. Still want to make her happy. If something''s better, I would go for it to please her. Thanks.

No, you don't want the .76 F. You really don't. Will look at the others...

All of the princesses you picked are less than 5 mm, except for the second. The H Blue Nile one was 4.88, and the G SI1 was bigger than that, I think.

JulieN, how about this one? I thought the .76 one is really good except for the Fluorescence.

Shape: Round
Weight: 0.73 Carat

In Descending size:
(PS wire transfer price listed for all JA stones, they have upgrade policy)

4.95 mm D SI1 $2480 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=862132
4.90 mm G SI1 $2258 http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00331915
4.90 mm G VVS2 $2470 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=860059
4.90 mm E SI1 $2300 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=862130
4.88 mm H VS1 $2370 http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00192384

There is a 2% difference between 5 mm and 4.95 mm. Not noticeable IMO. 4% difference betwen 4.9mm and 5mm, possibly perceptible depending on how good your eyes are, but other things such as if your diamond is not performing well either due to bad cut or dirt will make a bigger difference.

The Blue Nile stones are AGS 0 for light performance, they''re pretty good bets.

The James Allen staff should be able to help you more on picking the best one.

what does she want? round or princess?

Both this and the 0.76 have pavilion angles of 41.6. I''m going to pass.

I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination. All I can say is that I have owned both princess and round shapes and princess cuts are typically deep and will always look smaller than their round counterparts of the same weight (b/c of more weight below). The advice I can give you is to buy from a place with a lifetime trade up policy. There is something that happens after you have worn a ring for a while - it begins to look smaller than it originally was, no matter what its shape is.
