Why wouldn't it stay in the Grimaldi family? I would assume that Princess Caroline probably inherited it as the oldest daughter. I know the Grimaldis have other family jewels that have been passed down through the generations just like the Windsors.

I agree - I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't particularly like it. For me, it's just 'too much' substance rather than class & style. Having said that I wouldn't turn it down if FI were to buy it for me

Plus, you can see this baby in real life starting in December in California when there is a 100 year anniversary Cartier retrospective at the San Francisco museum. Cannot remember offhand if it is deYoung or at the Legion, but they sent me a flyer and this ring is featured.

It is a gorgeous ring. If I remember correctly her first engagement ring was a ruby / diamond band and then when he saw how big the erings in Hollywood were he bought her this.
