The HCA is a cut tool to help screen the better GIA Ex stones to identify the ones that have the most potential to be good. A score of 2.0 or less has potential to be an excellent stone, although we consider that should be verified with an idealscope or ASET image showing light return. If those are not available, I would only buy a stone with a score of 2.0 or less.

I put the numbers in for that diamond and it got a score of 4.4 - Good - only if price is your main criterion (you want to see Excellent here)

Light return: Good
Fire: Good
Scintillation: Good
Spread (diameter for weight): Very Good

We recommend getting Excellent on the first three and very good or better on Spread. So this stone is not one I'd consider under any circumstances (unless they were giving it away and I could have it recut to an ideal cut 2.5 ct stone.)

So the GIA triple excellent I am looking at scored a 4.4 And the Very Good cut, Ex, Ex GIA just received a 0.7 on the HCA
I am thinking I should choose the second one! Thoughts Diamondseeker? Thank you!

2) Leaky mains & LGFs - no length of LGF would be sufficient to "save" 41.6

I need to see everything on that GIA report to see why it got a cut grade of very good. So it might be ruled out, too.

Okay, I went back to the other thread. Extremely thin girdle is what is causing that stone to be very good. We have no way of knowing how much of the girdle is extremely thin, but that can pose a risk of chipping the stone. So unless you are putting this diamond into a bezel setting, I would rule it out, too.
