Hi...I''m looking at a diamond and I''m kinda confused by this steep/deep debate. I read that there should be concern with Pavilion Angles at 41.0. This diamond is at 41.0.

1. To confirm, steep/deeps are to be avoided because they exhibit light leakage, correct? Is there anything else?

2. I don''t think this is a steep/deep, but it is close to a steep/deep?

3. What dimensions would have to change to make it a steep/deep?

Off AGS report
Table - 55.2
Depth 61.4
Crown Angle - 34
Pav Angle - 41.0
Culet - Pointed
Crown - 15.2%
Pav - 43.3%

Bonus Question: Girdle - 1.4% to 3.7%
Is that too much variance in the girdle?

Thanks all!

Steep deeps are crown 35+ with 41+ pavilion.

Your stone looks great. It "should" be a nice bright stone. However, if the PA isn''t cut very tight, there could be some leakage. Any way to get an IS pic?

Just use the HCA for a check. The steep deep region is in the blue region.

This combo needs an IS image or ASET.
Depending on what is in the averages and the lgf% it can be one of my favorite combos or it can be a dud.

Performance-wise, what makes this one of your favorite combos? Is it the balance of fire & brilliance or something else?

Also, what dimensions make this a favorite combo? Simply table and depth or others?

balance of fire & brilliance

To rate up there it needs:
tight pavilion
longish lgf% 77% min. 78-80 preferred.

Ditto.

Steep deep applies to both the crown and pavilion angles, usually 34.8/ 41 - 35/41 is the beginning of the SD zone. That is why ASET or Idealscope images are needed particularly with these angle combos.

Appreciate the feedback, Karl.

LGFs, huh? I guess you''re making me graduate from Diamonds 101 to 201...Getting to that 2nd level of education...got me some learnin'' to do now!

Attached is the ASET photo, which I believe, looks almost exemplary...let me know if there are any concerns!

Wow...how can you tell the difference between an ISee2 stone and a Hearts & Arrows?

I thought Isee2 was just a brand/cutter of Hearts & Arrows (like HOF or ACA), not a specialized/modified pattern like 8* or Solasfera?

It is just a branded H&A, they cut nice stones. Sometimes after looking at many IS pics of the same brand/cutter, one can maybe tell when an unknown is posted. I have an Isee2, and yes, this IS looks like it "could" be one (and the angles are typical of this brand), but I wouldn't want to guess, as I've seen some that look like it, but aren't.

However it will be a beautiful stone.

It is stated in the GIA report, the Isee2 symbol is inscribed on the girdle.

EDT.
Mistaken for another thread, but if you look at the AGS report, you should be able to see if the stone is an ISee2 stone.
