Hi all! I posted an initial question about starting the search for some diamond stud earrings and got some great info on vendors and even some links for stones!

I’ve found a couple stones I’m curious about and would love to have some expert eyes on them! I’m mostly interested in a great cut and size— less sensitive to color and clarity. Price is a factor for sure— so I’m not looking for the best of the best, but something pretty solid. These two aren’t perfect matches but I don’t think that will bug me as they won’t ever be right next to each other. I had posted these stats in the old post but thought maybe I was supposed to do a different ones for actual stats on a diamond. I hope it doesn’t feel like a double post! Thanks in advance!

Hi Jen,

I think you did well! The picky side of me would prefer the table sizes to be a little closer but it's not something that would ever be noticeable on the ears, the diameters are close, 1 colour grade is fine, I think they'll be great!

Pics once you get them please!

Thanks, Tweety! We have two small kids now, so most of the time it’s covered in mud, dried yogurt, and playdough! This pic was from our honeymoon about 9 years ago.

I need to look up the stats— I can’t believe I’ve forgotten given the amount of scrutiny we poured over it then. The stone and ER are from WF. The setting is their 6 prong, knife edge. I went back and forth on setting but loved the classic look and still do. Some of those halos though have me  And my recollection is 1.8something, G, blanking in clarity— but that wasn’t a huge priority as long as I couldn’t see anything. My finger is 5.5. I’ll try to look for the GIA report or maybe I can dig through old emails to confirm details.

Thanks! I will, for sure! I love seeing the finished product after reading about the planning stages!

Thank you so much for indulging me, Jen! Congratulations on your young family! I, too, am in the young children phase. I must admit, I’ve perused PS more than once whist in a park sandbox full of toddlers. I’m sure you don’t mind having that beauty on your finger, even if it does get very messy at times!

I LOVE your setting and am considering the WF knife edge. I was initially worried that the width was too thick but I think it’s so lovely with a larger stone like yours. Did you purchase the setting without modifications, i.e., soften the knife edge or thin out the shank? If I choose that setting it would be sold “as is” without modifications and I’d love for it to look like yours!

Thanks for sharing your stone details. Feel free to post another picture of that beauty!

Thank you so much! How old are your little ones? I have a 5 year old and a 20 month old. They are so much fun— and so much work!

There were no modifications to the setting at all. I remember being interested in a very thin band but was really looking for classic look—- annnnnnd we put all the budget into the stone, so tried to keep it simple. The only issue is that the shared prong band has rubed against the head of the mounting and has worn them down a bit. It seems to still be solid and I get it checked— but still might need to get that repaired at some time.

Are you doing a reset or upgrade or what? Where are you in the planning process? So exciting!

TOTALLY butting in here to tell you that WF can make the knife-edge thinner. I've posted my custom ring 109 billion times, so ignore me if I'm being annoying ;)

This is the WF knife-edge setting with modifications:
thinner shank (I'm guessing it's 1.8mm)
softened the knife edge
diamond set medium height
90/10 plat/ir blend

The custom setting option only applies to in-house stones, HNL! :cry2: I think you said that your diamond shrinks by the day but really, I don’t know how you can lift your finger with that doorknob! It’s splendid!

@jen2mc That’s good to know about the shared prongs as I’ve been considering a seven stone to go with the band. Do you remember the tcw for your shared prongs? Is it a seven stone? It’s perfect with your engagement ring!

Mine are both in diapers so you can imagine the insanity around here! I like to dream about a 2 caratish upgrade in a gorgeous Tiffany style solitaire when things get really cray. I’m currently in the browsing stage and ogling settings like yours! I don’t drink coffee and may sound silly but the thought of the upgrade for my upcoming 10th anniversary gives me that extra pep in my step when I’m exhausted from schlepping a stroller uphill for two miles with a screaming toddler and 4 bags of groceries hanging on every hook of the stroller!

My current e-ring is 1.8mmish and I’ve enjoyed it but am ready for something with a little more badonkadonk, as @PintoBean puts it lol. I think both the original and modified versions are gorgeous!

I’m sure your studs will be amazing! Please share pics when you get them!!

@TweetyBird23 thanks! I’ve loved the rings together. There’s definitely a gap between them but I think it adds to the look. The band is a full eternity band. It’s either 1.5 or 2 tcw. I just can’t remember. And it’s a simple Stuller band.

Your current set looks beautiful. I love the thin band! Really emphasizes the stone! I love the dreaming stage of planning!

Side note— I’m amazed you don’t drink coffee with two little ones! I don’t think there’s a diamond big enough to take the place of coffee at this stage in my life! Although, right now I think I’d give up all my diamonds if it meant my little guy would sleep past 4:30am!

Happy 10 year anniversary!
