I have a really an interesting ring design in my head, but I'm not sure if it's physically possible...

It's a split shank design, with the shank having a soft knive edge, and that knive edge being micro-pave'd.

Kind of like this.....

.... but used on a curving split shank similar to this.....

.... except not connecting at the bottom at all, like this....

The thinner the bands, the better. I love halos, and I imagine it'd have to have one to allow more surface area to work with.

Is this even physically possible??

I'm am sooo not a setting expert, so I can't really comment on whether or not the design is possible. I think that almost anything is, but whether or not there will be structural limitations is another matter. Do you know who you would like to work with on the design? I think it would be best to email them and include photos and ask what their thoughts would be.

This is my split shank knife edge ring. I personally love it.

Yes!! Those are all close enough to know that what I'm picturing is most like possible. :-). The biggest feature is that I'd like two separate shanks that leave an opening between them...the knife edge would really only half to go half way down the sides. Thanks so much for the replies...and the reference pics!

I bet it can be done, but it might not be structurally sound with the gap. Are you planning to "insert" a wedding band in the gap after the wedding?

Yes, that's what I envisioned, and I've seen an example where a small bar connects both shanks at the very bottom, and the additional band sort of slides in from the side. (I can't attach a pic of the example from my phone, but I'll do it in a bit once I'm home). I'd still prefer both shanks separate, but obviously would do whatever is going to be the most structurally sound.

Probably very doable. Mine only connects for about 8mm at the bottom of the shank.

This is the example I found that allowed a separate band to slide in between both shanks that still connected at the base of the band...

That's basically the same idea I had, but with both shanks and the separate band all being as thin as possible. If it didn't have to connect at the base, I'd prefer it didn't, but if a small connector was required, then I'd like it to be narrow, too.
