Split shank gallery/struts/basket structure

Hi all,

I'm dreaming up setting ideas, and I like the look of a fairly wide split shank (on an oval in particular). But I like it to look open from the sides (with skin showing) rather than seeing the metal of the basket.

I saw the CAD in this thread which explains roughly what I want (no basket showing when looking at the shanks from the side):

Is this type of structure less stable than a proper basket? E.g. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/how-do-you-wear-your-wedding-band-with-halo-e-ring.91854/ The basket seems to make it look like it sits on the finger more stably?

Are rings more comfortable or less comfortable with a basket? (Comfort probably varies a lot on preferences, but I think I'd still benefit with some views on this).

Not being a ring wearer, I can't imagine whether the ring will be structurally stable or whether it moves around too much if I don't have a basket, or how it feels when it's a split shank with the support looking like two bars across the top of the finger.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That's my JbEG ring! :)

The first CAD you linked looks very stable - there are struts in the gallery that add stability, and the metalwork looks substantial - I can't imagine it's not a very sturdy ring.

The basket usually has nothing to do with comfort - the basket area of the ring that holds the diamond sits up off the finger, not between the fingers where it would be noticed. That said, the height of the setting can sometimes be problematic if it's too tall as it will catch on things.

The most uncomfortable part of rings to me is pave on the shank. I've tried many on over the years, and i just can't get used to the feeling of the roughness between my fingers, therefore all of my rings have smooth shanks.
