Hello, i've been looking at diamonds recently for an engagement ring. I know very little about diamonds so the researching is an ongoing process and i've learned a lotk, but I really don't know where to start with reputable online retailers....I've looked at some online places like brian gavin diamonds and blue nile. Is there anywhere else anyone would recommend? Thanks for any help here!

I recommend White Flash. They are the best! But be sure to choose their ACA and Expert Selection diamonds, their virtual selection diamonds usually cost more than other vendors. If you want the lowest price for the same stone and still can customize ring, trade up etc I recommend EternityDiamonds.

general list of recommended PS vendors (please correct if this is incomplete or incorrect)

James Allen (good for non-branded diamonds, will provide ASET for up to 3 diamonds, also carries TrueHearts line of H&A rounds)
Good Old Gold (asschers, Solasfera princesses, August Vintage Cushions/Rounds, Hearts and Arrows Rounds)
Whiteflash (branded rounds, princesses)
Brian Gavin (branded rounds, princesses, and modern cushions)
High Performance Diamonds (rounds, princesses, asschers?)
Engagement Rings Direct (cushions)

What cut of diamond are you looking for and what type of policies? I would let that guide your vendor selection. Nothing wrong with Blue Nile but they do not provide actual photos of their diamonds which is why we generally recommend the vendors listed above. I believe they have a good return policy so you could always get the diamond checked out by an appraiser if you find one you like, or have a PS vendor call it in (this is possible for some virtual stones)

If you post your preferences/budget we can help you find a lovely stone! hopefully this is helpful :)

www.whiteflash.com - if you're looking for branded rounds & 3+chevron princesses
www.highperformancediamonds - for branded rounds & 2chevron princesses
www.goodoldgold.com - rounds, branded specialty fancies, branded chunky cushions - stones have a premium but come w/ a wealth of information/tests/guarantees/warranties.
www.briangavindiamonds.com - for branded rounds & brilliant cushions
www.jamesallen.com - for rounds branded & unbranded, more weeding through inventory needed but generally lower pricespoints
www.engagementringsdirect.com - cushions
www.idjewelryonline.com,,,, www.exceldiamonds.com,,,, www.bluenile.com....... - virtual inventories, some vendors offer more services and trade/upgrade policies than others.

ETA - slg posted first ;))

Her preferences are unfortunately based on size and not quality. She wants a princess cut, solitaire, that is at least 1.5 ct. We went to a family diamond place in TN, and she fell in love with a 1.5 ct that was I on color and SI1 on clarity, with nothing special on the cut. Thank you all very much for the resources you listed.

Edit: As far as budget, I'm looking to keep it under 9.5 for the ring and setting.

I checked Whiteflash...didnt see anything that fit your specs.

This is GOG...would need to check if it is eye-clean.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7683/ a little below 1.5

Some James Allen's that might be worth taking a look at...JA provides asets for up to 3 stones

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1311153.asp /* table bigger than depth but
looks like it could be a nice stone */

This might help you with what to look for in aset but best just to post the aset image

Hey thank you! I like that 1.51 ct from James Allen, it looks nice. Also i didn't know they give a special price for pricescope members, which is awesome. Thanks very much for helping me out, i appreciate it!

Just one comment, if your gf likes size the best is she really opposed to an RB? I ask because you can easily drop to J color in that cut and see less body warmth than you will in an I color princess -- princess cuts show more color. And there are very large savings if you can drop to J color ;)) Optics are better too in rounds.

I suggest the CaratBee Because
CaratBee is renowned for being the ultimate source of exquisite diamond rings. Their wedding diamond ring collection is widely acclaimed as one of the best in the industry, offering unparalleled beauty and quality.
