I have one very similar, or I'd grab it, it's stunning.
I remember this stone and I was sorry I missed it. Sucks to see it listed so soon with a mark-up.

Although now that I have seen their pictures I'm glad I was too slow, I see quite a bit of brown.

I don't really see brown, I think it looks great. Expecting a consumer to take a pro quality photo, with proper lighting, etc., is a bit much . . .

Where can I find this stone?
I would like to provide a link, but we are not allowed to link to the other forum. Try doing a Google search for "spessartite Lembeck". Lembeck Gems had several nice specimens of spessartite.

I don't think they're still selling since Steve passed away though, are they?

Andrew Sarosi had some very nice specimens too, but he also passed away. His son owns Africagems.com, so he might have some of his father's specimens. ????
That is correct; Lembeck Gems is no more.

Where did I say the quality of their photos were lacking? I said I see some brown, which is common for all but the best Rubellite under incandescent lighting.

You guys are killing me. I'm never going to set anything at this rate! I have to stop buying stones!

I'd love to snap this up - especially since it's a pear - but I don't have the cash after the holidays. So I'd love a PSer to get this so I can see tons more pictures and how they set it. :naughty:

That's gorgeous :lickout: I've been stalking that site daily lusting after the emeralds. Must be strong.....

I saw this and started doing budget calculations in my head. I just bought a cabochon amethyst, and I already have a light lavender spinel. I don't need this!

I know it has some grey, and would be worried that it could get dark or black out in some light conditions. (This is why I tend to like lavender spinels, or silky/velvety purple sapphires, but the latter is very expensive and hard to find.) I would ask how it performs. It's difficult, however, to find purple spinels like this.

Love the color of this spinel, special needle inclusions as well. I remember when it's first introduced it's immediately reserved. Now it's available, maybe someone returned it?
I would consider it if the color does not go darker than the picture because that's as dark as I can deal with.

You are not alone - I have an EC light blue Aqua, a pair of round silver Spinel and a round grey Spinel on their way to me from Jeff Davies, my first purchases of this year, and no doubt won't be the lasts!

DK  :Up_to_something:

That was me. It charmed me so much. And I sat with it for four days before I finally was able to return it. It was cut beautifully and had just an absolutely amazing color under all indoor lighting. Strangely, it was natural lighting that got me. It shifted to a dark violet, and occasionally a plumish-black velvet in diffused lighting. Had just a bit too much saturation for me.

Was still a hard stone to return. Even after I contacted Gary to return it I almost emailed him again to say never mind. Lol.

Hello, my login name is Preg, and I have a gemstone addiction.

I love that Acinom knows the amethyst I bought, and both OTL and SouthernSunset had more info about the purple spinel. I wish you were all "real life" friends because it's hard to have a hobby that you love and no one else understands.

I'm so glad that cabs are showing up more on PS! :)

The purple spinel is sold

Same here, I don't have any RL friends who are into CS or even jewelry in the same way that PSers are...PS definitely enables my gem and jewelry habit **cough** obsession!

Are you looking for a "Siberian" colored amethyst? I know of one more, but it is faceted. Let me know if you are interested, and I will find a way for us to get in touch. I have a listing on Loupe Troop that I can point you to.

Aww, thank you Pregcurious! This is so kind of you. I am looking for a cab stone though. So, if you spot an equally gorgeous stone like yours, please let me know :wavey:

So I was browsing around, as I do, looking at things I can't afford, and I stumbled onto this topaz at pala:

sunsettopaz.jpg

And... I would really like to see that pretty sunset thing set somehow. :) Someone here should buy it so I can watch.

:)

DeskJockey,
That's a very pretty topaz.

Acinom, I think you could ask Dana. He may more more rough. The stone he sent me is exactly as it is in the pics, so you could ask him for the same look if you liked it in the pictures.

The pair of cabochons they have would make a nice pair of earrings. They are not eye clean, but they would be on the ears, so I don't think eye clean is as important.

That is crazy beautiful. It shadows any bicolor tourmaline I have seen.
