My husband has purchased a RBC for our 10 year anniversary. Our jeweler is hand making the setting. I chose a solitaire setting with 4 prongs, and diamonds down the side of the ring to match my wedding band. BUT......now that I've been here and have seen the victora canera emilya halo, I am torn.

The stone is a 2.04 K color (does NOT look like a K, I couldn't tell the difference next to my D, so I am NOT color sensitive. It is beautiful, sparkly on it's own. But that halo is amazing...

What do do.....

You've got one vote for the Emilya!!

(also, a halo will help with any tint... since you really can't view the diamond from the side)

Has your jeweler already started making the setting? If he has started, it will be expensive to lose money on that and then have Victor make an Emilya. But I'd have Victor make my ring either way, because his pave work is so exceptional. Whether to halo or not has to do with your optimum size preference. The halo will make your stone look quite a bit larger. I personally think a halo would be beautiful on that size stone, though.

I would have my jeweler make something similar....I just am going back and forth over what I want....

oh, and my finger is a 4.5 if that helps...

I would get the Emilya because it is my dream setting. I love wearing it everyday and VC is amazing to work with.

If you are meaning have your jeweler make a halo setting, I'd not consider it unless you have seen his pave work and could compare it at least to Victor's pictures and preferably have some references of people who have had his pave rings for awhile. I just haven't seen a lot of rings that were to the level of a Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch ring.

The question though is does your local jeweler have the skill level to replicate a VC halo pave ring? I see so many threads here where people are disappointed with their replica halos because they aren't angled properly or look chunky.

he is amazing. His work is impeccable. He is also a good friend of ours and he stands by his work. My friend barb who is a "glitter monger" like me, had a 3 carat round put in a custom setting he hand made and worked on for like a month. She wore it for a week, decided she didn't like the setting and he did it over for FREE. Here is a few examples:

so dirty. sorry! :?

I would go with VC in a heartbeat...

I am thinking a 3-4 carat older vintage cut with the emilya halo for my next upgrade. Which will be in about 10-20 years?

I am in the minority. I love halos but think they are trendy. I say go for the solitaire and get a Blingy eternity band.

From those photos I do not believe the workmanship is on VC's level. The dainty, delicate, minimal-metal look and rounded curves that define the Emilya are IMO not easy to replicate. I will never recommend having a piece by a given designer replicated by another anyway - it's a recipe for disappointment. If you want the Emilya as-is, get the Emilya, made by the person who is known for making the Emilya.

I'm not much of a halo person though, so I second April's vote for solitaire and blingy band(s) ::)

I'm going to have to agree with Yssie on all points here.

I am leaning towards the solitaire. It's a BIG stone- measures 8.23mm 2.04 carats, and my finger is a 4.5. I think adding the halo would make it look too much like a cocktail ring, know what I mean? My wedding band is pave diamonds, and will match the shank of the new ring, so there will be a lot of bling going on anyway....

And I agree, I'd want it to look EXACTLY like the emilya and it probably wouldn't...

Does Victor set sapphires in the Emilya setting?

also, does anyone know the cost of the Emilya in platinum to accomodate a 3 carat stone?

Yes he would set sapphires. Cost would be for a 3ct Emilya in the 4-6k range pending melee size and where you put it.

And for reference here is my old Emilya with a 2.04ct MRB that is 8.27mm. I hope it at least gives you a visual so you know for sure that you now want a solitare. For reference it is a very tight size 6.
