Gwendolyn, this is a really good question! It would be a lot easier to see the results if you set it up as a poll asking ''What is the weight of the center diamond in your engagement ring?'' And make the choices: less than .5, .5 to .74, .75 to .99, 1.0 to 1.24, 1.25 to 1.49, 1.5 to 1.99, 2.0-3.0, 3.0 and up.

Just a thought!
Gwen!!! What a pain! Lol!

Set up the poll... and do a few polls. DO one asking about the average original ering diamond only size. Like DS said above. PEople can then reply with their answer and state the total cts of the ring..

Then do a poll asking if you did upgrade, plan to, or how many cts up you went...

Then do a gemstone vs diamond poll to see how many people had one of the other for the original.

This question comes up a lot, and I was thinking about setting this up myself...

Gwen, you''re too sweet! Save yourself the trouble! We love polls anyway then we can see what''s what!
Yeah, I know it''s a pain, but it''ll be a nice distractor/procrastinating tool for me when I''m needing a break from my grad school work.

Plus, don''t polls have time limits? I know lots of regulars don''t pop in daily, and I want to get as much info as possible, so I want to leave this open so people have a chance to participate. The more people who submit info, the more accurate the results! (Man, my research classes have REALLY gotten to me!

)

Anyway, I know it''s more work, but it''ll lend better results, so I don''t mind, really. I knew what I was getting myself into when I posted this thread.

Hi Gwendolyn! I love your new avatar photo!
I agree nice photo!! My center stone is 1.50 carats rb and side stones are .25 each (trillion) total sides .50. Overall total 2 carats.

You are you totaling just center stones right?? I wouldn't add sidestones as that would make it off ya know??
2.gif
I could see lots of large sized totals if sidestones are included.

Gwen, do you want the information on previous ERs i.e., upgrades, or just info on our current ER?
Any and all information is welcome! That way, if enough people give me info on original e-rings and upgrades, I can do separate figures for those too.
1.gif
Ok, great!

My original ER: .33ct solitaire
First upgrade: 1.62ct solitaire
2nd upgrade: 2.52ct FLY radiant center stone, 3.35ctw halo and side stones

OK, I''ll play. Center stone (RB): 2.36.
Pave melee shank: 28 stones, <.02 each... so guessing about .45 - .50''ish as the tcw of the band.

Just a thought, but if you asked, maybe Andrey or Ali would post this as a "sticky" at the top of RT for awhile?

I''m asking for sidestone info separately from the solitaire info, so I can give a bunch of data at the end of all this madness.

Hi Gwendolyn! I love your new avatar photo!

Forgot to add--both are solitaires.

I don''t have my paperwork in front of me, so I''ll have to rely on my memory.
Wedding Ring = 1.47
3 Stone Ring = 1.02, center 1.51, 1.03

Alrighty then Gwen!!! Better you than me! LOL Actually, I suck with numbers so I wouldn''t be able to do it anyway... Thanks for doing this!! I can''t wait to see the results!
So... technically we''re not officially engaged, but I do know what the ring is... Does that count?? I should have it in the next month... Your call!

OK, I'll bite. Original e-ring:
0.25 total carat weight, Art Deco wedding set. Mmm, center stone was probably .20 cts with the .05 as melee.

Upgrade for 8 year anniversary/birthday/Xmas
1.57 cttw c.1920s antique e-ring. The center stone is a 1.22 carat OEC. There is about .35 cttw in single cut melee.

1.02 ct

this will be interesting - thanks gwen!!

Hiya Gwen,

I have a 1.01 F/VS1 cushion - on the way from the jeweller on Tuesday. It''s a perfect fit for my lifestyle (casual, outdoorsy) and finger size (4.25).

Toodles, this should be fun!

1.20 asscher

Mine is:
Center stone round -- 2.01
Mounting --1.75
Total -- 3.76

Mine is a princess solataire, 1.01 ct.

You are so cool to be taking on this tricky but interesting task Gwendolyn!

Both are diamond:
center: 0.70ct
sidestones: 0.06ct

Love your avatar! Bands are nice. By who?

My original e-ring was a 1.03ct rb HOF. Upgraded to a 5ct MB.

Let me know results....

Original e-ring was 0.18 ct solitaire

25th anniversary upgrade is 1.50 ct center stone, with approximately 0.40 ctw sidestones

Center stone of 1.46, and side baguettes of approximately .25, bringing us up to a total of 1.70ish. Great idea, btw - I''ll be interested to see the results.

great idea gwen!
36.gif

1.29 ct RB

2.07 ctw

E-ring = 0.48 cts

5 stone wedding band = 1.75 cts (5 x 0.35cts)

Solitare: 0.80ct RB <- It was my husband's mother's E-ring.

I love this kind of stuff, great idea, Gwen! I''d love to know the average weigths for e-rings and wedding bands as welll as average color and clarity AND finger size, haha, but I think that will be way too much. Here is mine:

Center stone: 1.55 carats
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Sidestones: .42 carats
Total ering: 1.97 carats
wedding band: .84 carats
Finger size: 8

kinda shy in terms of posting but here goes

e-ring(now my RHR) = 1.5 RB G SI1

wedding gift (i wear on my LH as an e-ring) = 3.02 asscher E VVS1

both are solitaires

good luck with the math!

I have a solitaire diamond-1.23ct.

My e-ring is a 2.01 ct cushion on a 1.08 ctw diamond eternity band.
It's my original and only e-ring.

Great question, Gwennie!

1.14 carat round solitaire, heirloom diamond

(If I didn''t have the heirloom diamond, I probably would have gotten something like 0.65 carats back when I was a wee lass of almost 24--who was making more money as a teacher than her boyfriend was--and maybe would have upgraded by now.)
