Dee Jay -- I woulda been a wreck too if my DH just dropped that announcement on me! Lots of hugs and good wishes to you. Men! They are so macho and unwilling to discuss or even think about ''weaknesses'' such as a heart problem.

I would just make sure that he has a great cardiologist with a successful track record, who has done the procedure many times before. Best of luck to your DH!!!

I am just reading this ... and feeling the adrenaline flow!

It is perfectly natural to be worried and yes, a lil'' freaked out about DH!

It is true, that men tend to have that "I''m the bread winner, I''m invincable ... etc". I have found that they don''t like the idea of themselves being vulnerable and / or weak.

I am very glad that he is getting help
emthup.gif
, and as scary as this procedure might sound ... our hospital does these everyday with great success. With the medical technology / capabilities we have today, and specialists that are educated with the most up to date findings ... success for heart procedures are very high.

Hugs, and please keep up posted!

Take care,

I, too, am sorry to hear this, Dee Jay! But it is also SO good that he went ahead and went to the doctor before the condition became worse! Praying for a smooth procedure and a good outcome!

Oh, I am glad to see all these reassuring posts!
Boy, you never think much about all the amazing things they can do nowadays until it hits close to home.
It sounds like it really is a positive thing for him to get this done and make his heart better.

Just a week to go til it''s behind you!
Keep us posted

DJ, I''m sure he''ll pull through. I''m sorry to hear about this, I can only imagine how stressful it must be. Keep in mind that they do a lot of heart surgeries nowadays, so try not to stress too much about it. I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you two.

Hi Dee Jay-

Sorry I didnt see this thread sooner...your dh is having an ablation, huh? He will be just fine. There is a very low complication rate with this type of procedure...the idea is to "get rid of" the extra foci(points) in his cardiac tissue that is making his heart beat so rapidly when he exerts himself...poor thing...this has happenned to me several times when exercising, and I can tell you its not fun...

I know he is going to be just fine...I saw a pt the other day in the office (I am a nurse practitioner) who said she had an ablation done a couple of weeks ago for a very similar condition to your hubby''s. Anyway, she said it was painless, and she got through it easily, and is feeling so much better- no palpitations, dizzy spells, etc. So, think positively, everything will go smoothly. Best of luck and best wishes to your hubby for a speedy recovery!

Don''t worry - everyting will be fine. It''s absolutely amazing what surgeons do nowadays with heart procedures. I''ve heard of an operation where they insert a long tube through a thigh vein into the heart to clear some arteries and I guess this is a similar procedure (as in accessing the heart through the thigh).

My FI''s father is 74 and he recently had open heart surgery. He suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago and last week had a 6 bypass surgery. The surgery went well and most likely he will be out tomorrow. He''s a mad soccer fan (being English) and we like to joke that he had an attack so that he could watch the World Cup Football in hospital in peace away from his partner at home! Some people find it inappropriate to use humour in situations like this - but our family doesn''t. It''s a good distraction.

DJ......I''m sure he will be fine. There are just so many advances these days, and it sounds like early detection/prevention. That''s always my choice if possible.....early detection/correction.

You''ll both be in my prayers for smooth sailing and minimal anxiety.

Hubby went in this morning bright and early for his 7:00 am appointment and was told that there was someone who was scheduled for the same procedure late yesterday afternoon that they didn''t get to and they''re going to do that guy first.

Ug.

Anyway, hopefully they''ll take him in any minute now, but if it takes any longer than expected they said he might have to stay overnight rather than being able to come home.

Once again, ug.

He has to stay perfectly still for a few hours and then will be recovering for 4-6 more after that, but hopefully he'll be able to come home tonight.

Poor hubby had to spend the night in the hospital becuase one of his incisions sprung a leak when they tried to move him into a sitting position for the first time. Yikes! But I just brought him home and he and The Demon Dog are upstairs having a doggy and poppa reunion, LOL!

You guys have been wonderful through all this and I really appreciate it! Thank you!

Oh!!! I''m so sorry about the incision!

You are such a STRONG GODDESS of a woman to take care of hubby!

You are a GODDESS! Don''t forget to treat yourself in a small way!

We are so glad to hear that hubby is doing better. You must have been so worried.
I''ll bet you feel like you were on this crazy "high" -- stress mode. Hopefully now you can relax a little.

The hard part is over! Success!

I am glad hubby is home w/ you and the Demon dog!

Your hubby should feel better now that he has had the procedure. Just make sure he takes it easy this weekend.

Take care, and enjoy the weekend!
