The other day I was able to get on a size 4 1/2 in the afternoon on my left hand (and I wasn''t cold at all). The jeweler was insistent that I needed to buy that size because there needed to be some grip by the ring on my knuckle. That morning I couldn''t get on my size 5 tiffany ring in platinum 13 years old -but I wear it on my right hand. If I get an e-ring in a 5 do you think I''ll be ok? I want to wear a wedding band with the ring. Should I go up to a 5 1/2? I am shocked there''s that much difference between left and right hands and I''ve lost weight recently but never in my life did I think I was a 4 1/2. Platinum won''t stretch right? The last thing I want is to have to get my ring sawed off my finger. The second to last thing I want is to lose the ring after washing my hands.

Anyone got advice? How much do people''s hands tend to swell and shrink during the day.

I have heard that whatever hand-ed you are, that hand''s ring size will be larger...but I am proof that it is not true. My other hand is a full ring size larger than the hand I write with.

My suggestion is to go to several different jewelers, the mall is good for this experiment, and ask to have your finger sized. Then you should be able to get a good estimate on your true ring size. Also, don''t foget you can get 1/4 sizes too if one size is too small but the next size up is too loose.

I can wear a perfect size 6 on my ring fingers on both hands. I''ve had multiple jewelers confused by this as they''ve never seen anything like this...each hand needs to be measured independently. Go to another jeweler and confirm your ring size. If they also say a 4-1/2 is a good fit, which will accommodate swelling of your fingers, then that''ll be the size for you!

You can also go with 5 full, meaning just a hair bigger than a 5, or in the other direction 5 scant, meaning just a hair smaller than a 5. My hands swell in the warmer weather and I hate the tight feeling so I resized my rings to a 5. They used to be a 4 1/2. That was a long time ago and my weight has pretty much stayed the same. Hope this helps, it''s not easy I know!!!

I would err for slightly bigger...maybe go for 5.25 or so. If it's a little too big, you can have "speed bumps" put onto the bottom. The great thing about those is...if for example you get pregnant, or gain weight, or your ring later feels tight, you can have those filed back down and poof! The ring is looser.

I also think it's easier to go down in size than up, especially depending on the ring.

Edited to add: I'm a lefty and the fingers in my right hand are at least a size bigger than the left.

When I first got my e-ring, I was unsure about the size. We got a 6 1/2. It was too big, so I wanted to get it resized. I wanted a 6 1/4. The jeweler insisted that I go with a 6 to be able to tell a difference. I listened to him, and now that spring is getting near, I have a hard time getting the ring over my knuckle even using lotion. Now, my knuckle is all scabbed up twisting the ring over my knuckle. I should have gotten the 6 1/4.

My point is that you know your finger better than the jeweler. If you think a 4 1/2 is going to be to small, then go larger.

Also, I think my finger is bigger in the morning than at night. I don''t have as much of a problem getting my ring on or off at night.
