Question for the people that know rappaports, etc.

I have a 1.21 F/VVS1 radiant stone, that I''m looking to ''upgrade'' to a larger carat size, less clarity (more like a eye clean SI1/SI2), and a real ''low'' color, about a I-L (the warmth looks like it might work well for the setting we''re doing).

What kind of carat size would we be looking at?

I can''t answer your question, but I wanted to comment that radiants show more color than some other stones, so I''d probably personally stick with no lower than I color.

yea I''ve seen an L in person, under white light, looked extremely yellow... but not in a bad way.

color doesn''t affect brilliance or fire in any fashion right? the yellow ''hue'' is all in a matter of the eye of the beholder. There is no doubt it distinctly shows the color, however I think, if done correctly, it will actually add to it.

Thanks for the input though!

I think it is Catmom on here who has a gorgeous fancy yellow radiant, so I do like some colored radiants! You''ll just have to take it stone by stone as some may look dingy instead of yellow. But I agree that some settings (particularly antique styles) can work with lower colors. But no, cut is the factor that most affects the brilliance of the stone, not color.

Yea I would definitely agree, I saw the L, and I was like wow... that''s a NICE looking yellow, looked almost like a fancy color.

and I know cut is the biggest factor, but in terms of brilliance especially, does color affect it at all? I would think it would at least affect the visual aspect, white vs yellow and all?

and actually going for a setting with a rose gold/diamond halo around it

bump?

I would also like to know if color affects brilliance at all.

Cut is what affects brilliance, a low coloured diamond such as an O or P for example which will be visibly tinted, will still be brilliant if the cut is good. However cut quality is easier to predict in round diamonds than fancy shapes, especially with numbers. Also what a good cut can do, is to make the colour tint less noticeable face up perhaps, especially in a round diamond.
