I'm trying to decide between 2 stones. One is a bit larger but a VG cut. The smaller one is an EX cut.
Seems like a minute difference to me but I read here that a tenth of a mm is when a difference starts to be discernible.

I think it depends on the size of the diamond. If you are talking about a difference between 5 mm and 5.1 mm you might see a difference. If you are talking about 7 mm and 7.1 mm maybe not so much. Either way I would go for the better diamond. .10 mm is not enough to give up any quality, IMO.

well said lumpkin. i totally agree.

best of luck pinkrose!

i agree with what has been said. the difference will show up more in a smaller stone. In any case, definitely go with the one with the Ex cut, even if the diameter is smaller, it will show up bigger and will look bigger and brighter, which is after all what you want in a diamond.

Can you see a difference in a change of 0.10 of a mm? I'm trying to decide between 2 stones. One is .10 mm larger but a VG cut. The smaller one is an EX cut.

Are they the same carat weight? Are you using it for a ring or for a different type of jewelry? There are some people on PS who have claimed that their VG cuts, outperform EX cuts.

Its between a 1.01 Ex cut at 6.43 mm and a 1.04 VG cut at 6.55 mm. Both round.
Its difficult to find one with all the right specs. And the Ex cut fits the bill. Perfect everything! Its GIA excellent and falls within AGA class 1A Ideal. I'm so particular I'll never find the perfect one. I think this one is as perfect as it gets for me.

In the 1ct range there's so many to choose from. As long as you've shopped and which is apparent from your initial question, you'll be able to get the best for your money. If it's the best within your price range, then the decision is simple.

For the record, I've always dropped carat points for better cuts and color.
