My sister is considering this rb. it says ex,ex,ex, gia 1.76 I vs2.

Any help regarding the angles would be great.

There is so many different feelings about GIA ex cuts, I am not sure what to tell her anymore.....

We will use the ideal scope when we see it, but shoudl it be in the running?

you can put the numbers into the hca and get a general idea but of course any diamond that you can see in person should be in the running! having an idealscope makes it even better.

Ditto belle. I''d also add, at that crown angle, there could possibly be a durability issue. Be sure and ask whoever has the stone about it.

That, coupled with the somewhat shallow angle. It may be fine, I would just ask to be prudent.

It scores a 1.1 in the tic range...

If the ange is so shallow, how can it get a GIA Ex??

I didn''t say it was "so" shallow, just slightly. GIA EX covers a wide range.

thanks for the input.

i guess that has been what lots of buzz has been lately. GIA wide range....

when i saw the #''s, i thought the table was on the large side,

does the 80% number mean the lgf??

the 80% does represent the lgf''s
when will you get to see it? how many other diamonds will you be able to compare it to?

The table is a little on the large side, for some, but some people like that. And since she gets to actually see the stone, it''s really not an issue.

80% lgf have to do with the size of the lower girdle facets. In simple terms, it has to do with the sparkle the stone will give off, the longer will be more splintery, shorter will be chunkier with broad flash. GIA rounds their numbers, so you can''t say for sure what these really are.

Let us know what it looks like after you see it!

we will see it this weekend. and it is in the city so there should be plenty to compare it to. it might take some work to keep it in the same comparison range. but we will try.

i find it frustrating that the GIA ex,ex,ex can''t just be a given as a magnificent stone. i wish their grading was tighter.... too many variables

Eva, if she wants a stone that is closer to AGS ideal cut, you may want to stick with parameters such as these (which are close to what WF uses for their ACA''s):

table: 54-57

depth: 60-62

crown angle: 34-35

pav angle: 40.7-41 (This has to coordinate with the crown angle)

girdle: thin, medium, or slightly thick

I probably wouldn''t buy a stone with lower than a 34 crown angle. I just think the stones look better proportioned with a slightly higher crown than 32. The above numbers helped me a LOT when I was looking at stones.
